I was noticing how all storm news yesterday was about how fast Milton went from to Cat5 storm, but little being said today about how quickly it became a Cat3 by landfall and now a Cat-? ??

Also it moved much quicker across the state than expected. However the worst part was the tornadoes on the Atlantic side.

Yup, wondering the same thing.

The Tampa weather guy on youtube pretty much gave the best coverage and said that would happen because it always does. He also was pretty good at discussing "wobbles" in the storm track predicting a landfall south of Tampa bay.

All-in-all the media seems disappointed that hundreds of disney characters weren't killed.

Meanwhile, crickets now on North Carolina.

In all fairness, when Milton was still well out to sea, and even after it became a Category 5 storm, many/most weather forecasts from Florida TV stations that I saw predicted it would be a Category 3 storm before landfall.

I watched with particular interest because my daughter and a cousin both live on the west side of Tampa.

Wow, must have been climate change that reduced the storm, right?

"noticing how all storm news yesterday was about how fast Milton went from to Cat5 storm, but little being said today about how quickly it became a Cat3 by landfall"

It's noteworthy that a government weather 'expert' was explaining on TV last night that the hurricane intensity had dropped "slightly". That was after the media was already reporting it was a Cate 3 storm. Don't ever believe anything from this government.

“...with rescues and restorations underway” Didn’t ake DeSantis long to jump into restoration mode. He took unbrage to a reporter’s question yesterday about FEMA wanted to restrict folks from returning to their homes right now to suvey damage. He told him Fema is not in charge of hurricane preparation and recobvery here in Florida. I am. True alpha male. Kudos.

Not minimize the damage anyone has suffered or any loss of life but this hurricane was completely oversold to the public

Just a few days ago the climate zealots were saying we needed a new hurricane category because the power and intensity of the storm was unprecedented

Turned out it was just barely a cat 3 at landfall and was a strong tropical storm when it left Florida

DeSantis himself said the storm surge was less for Milton than Helene just two weeks ago

It doesn’t take a large group of people to over inflate the intensity when it is hundreds of miles out to sea. It’s harder after it crosses the shoreline and the predictions don’t live up to the hype.

It did get some bad Harris/Walz news off the front page and forced the evacuation of 14 very red counties in Florida.

And if it was downplayed and came in worse, which is always a possibility, then what?

Everyone is castigated for not giving enough warning.

They’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

And NOBODY remembers the times they called it right.

So what is YOUR suggestion when looking at a Cat 5 bearing down on land at x mph?

Instead of armchair quarterbacking, why not go and get your degree in meteorology and show everyone how it’s supposed to be done?

You report things accurately, I don’t believe it was ever a Cat 5 to begin with.

My degree in meteorology is based on an entire lifetime of living in Florida and experiencing dozens of hurricanes.

DeSantis himself said the storm surge from Milton was less than Helene two weeks ago, everyone knows that hurricanes lose intensity as they get close to landfall, but they don’t go from storm of the century that is a Cat 6 hurricane to less than a Cat 3 overnight.

Think of all the things the Government has lied to the public over the last few years, everything from WMD in Iraq to Ivermectin was a horse dewormer and for people not to take it, to think they wouldn’t lie about the intensity of a hurricane for political purposes is far less than being naive, especially when an election is less than one month away and the Democratic nominee is a brainless.

Fox showed a clip of a meteorologist talking about the rapid drop in pressure yesterday as it was moving west in the gulf. I kid you not, he started crying while he was describing it.

These are the ‘experts’ that we are not allowed to question.

Yes. I was surprised it was out of Fla by 3 am central this morning. Landfall was around 6 pm. So 9 hours.

It’s possible they lied about it’s intensity, but the bigger fraud is telling people it might hit as a Cat 5.

Hurricanes ALWAYS weaken as they approach land. Their fuel supply is being cut off primarily. Cut off the supply of warn water to feed it, and of course it will weaken.

Yesterday afternoon just a few hours before the storm made landfall, The Weather Channel was predicting 15-16 ft storm surge which turned out to be nowhere near accurate, Helene turned out to be worse by a significant amount.

As you say, storms always weaken as they get closer to landfall, but they don’t go from the storm of the century which needs a higher category than Cat 5 to barely a Cat 3 at landfall.

Besides the election, the climate change zealots politicize normal weather events to twist the narrative to advance a political agenda.

The government puts out far more propaganda filled with lies than they put out the truth, there is no doubt in my mind they would lie about the intensity of a hurricane headed for a populated area being run by a solid conservative Governor and a state that is key to Trump’s election and when they turn out to be wrong about the hurricane, no one questions it.
