As I write this, the vice presidential debate between Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is living up to the hype as Vance is wiping the floor with Walz, leaving him stammering and staring as though he can't remember anything from his script except "But Trump!"

The best part of the night so far, in my opinion, was when the CBS News moderators tried to "fact check" Vance on the issue of the Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, even though the rules of the debate were that the moderators weren't going to fact check each other but the candidates could.
After Vance used the word "illegal immigrants" to describe the Haitian migrants, the moderators tried to make a big deal out of the fact that they were technically here "legally." But Vance was having none of it and proceeded to explain the "technical" reason why. They tried to force him to move on to the next question but he continued on. In fact, he smoked them so bad that they ended up cutting his mic.
JD Vance just TOOK COMMAND of this debate by fact-checking these debate "moderators" who tried to fact-check him!

All that was missing was a literal mic drop.
Both Walz and the moderators were also fact-checked on the Twitter machine by Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin, who has spent years at the border reporting on the crisis. Here's what he had to say:
"CBS cuts Vance’s mic while he’s explaining how the Biden/Harris admin has allowed over 800,000 migrants to enter the U.S. via the CBP One App “lawfully”. It then sounded like Walz claimed the CBP One app has been used since the 90s, which is completely false. The Biden/Harris admin started using it in winter 2023 to begin mass paroling migrants into the country by the hundreds of thousands, typically between 1,300-1,500 every single day."
In other words, the moderators falsely fact-checked Vance but not Walz, who was the one actually not telling the truth.
Go figure. I mean, total shocker, right?
In any event, good on Vance for not letting the mods roll all over him and in the process creating another infuriating Romney/Crowley debate moment. Not happening on Vance's watch!

VP debates don’t usually mean a lot, but in this case it was important for Vance to make the case - and he did, in spades. Everyone knows Trump only has one term, so knowing Vance is so knowledgeable and warm may help swing voters who weren’t sure about Trump. Vance did a fantastic job.
That is where I turned it off.
HERE’S MY OPINION:
NO MORE DEBATES. THESE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE MAINSTREAM/ SOCIALIST LEFTIES, POSING AS JOURNALISTS TO PRANCE, DANCE, SMIRK, BEHAVE LIKE CHILDREN.

I used to be in your camp on this but I’ve changed my view. I would suggest the candidates DO a real debate. No moderator needed. Each candidate gets an opening statement...say 3 minutes. Then they alternate asking the other questions with a 2 minute answer followed by a 1 minute rebuttal. No partisan moderators, just a time-keeper maybe with the ability to cut off a mic when the time limit is exceeded. Think Lincoln - Douglas debate !! This would show the ability of the candidate to engage in meaningful discussions and think on their feet and demonstrate their command of the issues. Think how this format would go if it was Trump - Harris and Vance - Walz.
Last night SeeBS showed why they are part of the Enemedia and that they prefer to give aid and comfort to the domestic and foreign enemies of the United States.
Note to CBS affiliates all over the nation...
The network won’t pay for this, buy you lot likely will.

Agreed! Republican candidates should say when asked if they will debate “Absolutely not. We will not give liberal moderators the satisfaction of hearing their own voices as they protect the left while ganging up on the right”

These debates are preschool monitored Q&A shows. In a debate there is never interruption by the moderator except to mark the time. It is not the function of the mod to enter into the debate.
