As a young Airman stationed in England in the late 60s (a time when the Vietnam war was going full blast), I was issued a rifle during an alert.
Although proud of my service (and I did much in support of the war effort in a previous assignment in a country near Vietnam) I wouldn't dream of stealing honor by saying I carried a gun in war.

Well said. I retired in 1995 and I was one of those that he misrepresents. I hope he chokes on saying his oath to protect and defend. He doesn’t deserve any better.
