The bill was signed into law by Governor Green (D) on July 10, 2024. The bill requires persons under the age of 21 to have an adult with them when they are in possession of ammunition while legally hunting or target shooting.

People 18 years of age and above are adults in Hawaii law.

For me:

“Prohibited with penalty (fine) = Permitted for a fee”

It still violates these young adults rights.

>>Bill SB2845 goes on to explain how people who sell or transfer ammunition will be required by law to check government-issued identification to ensure that the person receiving the ammunition is 21 years old or older.

Given how prima facie unconstitutional the bill is, I’m guessing that this is the main intent. The rest of the bill could get struck down, but they’ll allow the ID check, and the auditable records of that check, to remain so that the state will have, essentially, a registry of ammunition purchases.

Plainly unconstitutional, on 2 grounds: first, of course, on 2nd Amendment grounds, as there is nothing in the law in 1791 that imposed any such restriction; second; this is a violation of the supremacy clause, as federal law plainly permits those from 18-20 to buy and own long guns (and the ban on handgun purchases by that age group is on its way out). If you cannot ban particular classes of firearms, you cannot ban the ammunition used in those firearms, any more than you can prohibit people from buying the means to exercise their right of free speech - anything materially necessary to exercise a right is as protected as the right itself.

But let’s thank Hawaii’s tyrannical government for passing this asinine legislation, because now it will end up in the Supreme Court and the anti-gun douchebags will be bitch-slapped on a nationwide basis.

This is the strategy of the anti-2A now. Pass obviously unconstitutional laws ad infinitum to gum up the works. It’ll take years to run through the courts, during which time citizens become disenfranchised. The chaos is the objective until such time that they get a friendly Supreme Court.

Time to raise the voting age back to 21.

Does that mean their government will provide 7/24 protection for them?

So the right to bear arms is not abridged, just the right to have ammo for such?

A bill to require ID to buy a legal product. The BS about age is just an excuse to make exercising a right burdensome on everyone, equate it with a vice, and track people.

Also, by being an obvious egregious violation of 2a,a way to tie up our legal folks and our money filing suits and appealing while they operate off our tax dollars. Since Bruen this lawfare is the preferred tactic of the left.

I remember myself, as a 14 year old teen in 1961, going into a store to buy a box of .22 shorts for my new rifle. No problems. No waiting period, no background check.
Then in 1962, Democrats Thomas J. Dodd and Emanuel Cellar proposed the first “handgun only” registration scheme.

From there it ballooned to democrat demands for the total abolition of all gun rights in the US, one step at a time.

Some of the most preposterous laws have been passed in the last fifty years by democrats.
I went into a nation wide store and found a set of old Randolph Scott DVD movies from the 1950s The store refused to sell them to me until I proved I was over 18 years of age. I was over 65 at the time.
Reason?: The DVDs were classed as “NR—Not Rated.” just like NR porn movies today.

WHATEVER they try to DO to the 2nd Amendment, must be done to the 1st also.

The SCOTUS needs to rule that all gun control laws are unconstitutional and that any attempt at implementing gun control legislation shall result in the immediate arrest of the authors and cosigners to be charged with violating the constitutional rights of the people.
