I’ve been watching videos about Japanese homeless, some of it is quite genteel, and older couple living in the underbrush near a river for over a decade, with a garden I’d never be able to create. Of course, there are homeless very similar to ours, but not as crazy or drugged.

About three minutes into the video it is mentioned that there has been no increase in Japanese income in 30 years. So people work very hard for low wages.
Also, Japan has an aging population. Many of their homeless are elderly and not in your face like American homeless who are drug addicts or mentally ill who have gone off of their meds.
