June 19 also disrupts Pride month, and this year coincided with the Summer Soltice. June 19th marks a day of great historical significance. There are other national days of recognition that have little significance.
IMHO Federal holidays have gotten out of hand. I’m on board with Thanksgiving, I’m on board with Memorial Day and I’m on board with Veterans Day, and Independence Day. I’m also on board for a June 19th day commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. But we no longer have commemoration days as such, they all turned into Mercantile holidays with no commemoration whatsoever except the highest levels of government for a wreath lane or some words in a politically motivated speech or some other crap.
Any other federal holiday is a waste. The Santy Klaus Christmas is what vacation days are for. The Mass for Çhrist is a Christian Mass. All the other trappings are heathen or centered around mecantile profits.
It’s gotten out of hand. Federal government employees paid for by taxpayers get a lot of days off. All the other peons and rubes (for the most part) have to work selling chinese junk to the federal employees who have the days off. It’s ridiculous!
So Happy Juneteenth! One of 5 or 6 Federal Jolidays that makes sense.
I was astounded that the markets were closed and ofc eventually found out that the government was closed.
