American Conservatives Embrace European Nationalists
Higly Respected ^ | June 13th, 2024 | Scott Greer

Posted on 06/13/2024 8:18:45 AM PDT by River Hawk

American conservative media gushed over the nationalist victories in the European Union elections this week. Fox News, Breitbart, Washington Examiner, Daily Wire, The Blaze, and many others celebrated the results. Fox even praised the election as a strong rebuke to “socialism” and “far-left policies.”

The American Right didn’t always treat Euro nationalists with adulatory coverage. Not that long ago, conservative outlets would warn about the dangers of these parties and slander them with the same hysteric claims liberal journos deploy. The positive coverage of Euro nationalists is another positive development for the American Right.

When I started working at the Daily Caller in 2014, I ran an article about an election the National Front did well in. I was instructed by the editors to be careful in how we covered the party as we wanted to make sure readers didn’t see the nationalists as the same as the Tea Party. It was not a wise choice to openly praise Le Pen and other Euro nationalists.

This began to change with Trump’s election in 2016. A populist nationalist winning in America made it more acceptable to praise populist nationalists in Europe. But it was still the minority position.

The American Right is now far more nationalist and less wedded to the discredited pieties of the past. It embraces the similarities between its Republicans and politicians in National Rally, the Freedom Party, and the AfD. The same rhetoric is increasingly shared between them and immigration animates the Right in both Europe and America.

Reality is catching up to the see no evil dishrag Right in the US.

All the fantasies about “they’ll just assimilate like everyone else did” are evaporating in the face of the reality that the Great Replacement isn’t just a conspiracy theory as we are all instructed by that noble source of all knowledge known as Wikipedia.

Queers in Kaffiyehs calling for the extermination of the Jews sorta made that painfully obvious.

The BoomerCon Kool-Aid is still a popular drink on FR.

The stories about assimilation were pretty much always a lie, one can look at how American politics and culture changed once we first started allowing the waves of unlike us immigrants in the mid 1800s, that led to the starting of the huge sweeps of changes in the direction of America domestically and in culture and government.

We made a heroic fight to regain control in the decades of the early 1900s but that was reversed with JFK and his even worse immigration goals.

What is the “Kool-Aid” of the conservatives in their 60s and 70s?

Yeah...that’s what I think too but have been hesitant to say.

Not wanted to get zotted. Still think that putting the message out is worthwhile. But at this point in history it’s so bad, even the blind can see now...oh wait. You just pointed out that some are still willfully in the dark. NM....

Think you summed it all up pretty succinctly.

Where we go from here is oblivion.

In other news, to quell criticism that they have diluted standards in the name of affirmative action, UCLA just appointed “Dr.” Julio Frenk of Mexico City to be the new head of that institution.

Because you know...Mexico is famous for medical education, on a par with Germany and Britain, right?

Instead of tightening up their admissions requirements, they just surrendered and turned over the place to the invader. Should turn out well.

What message, what in the world are you guys talking about, and why would you get zotted for it, for what, being against conservatives?

We're not a democracy, we're a constitutional republic. (Not realizing we are an oligarchy)

I'm a Reaganite not a Neocon. (Not realizing that the Reagan Administration and most of its policies were controlled by Neocons)

[Insert favorite politician here] is great because he voted for lower taxes. (But accomplished pretty much nothing else)

[Insert favorite politician here] is great because he makes great speeches in the senate.

If only more people would listen to Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, Savage, etc.

As long as I have my guns, I'll be okay. (Tell that to Brian Malinowski's widow)

Hispanics have traditional values and will vote Republican. (But then so do Jews and Asians and they vote Democrat, and if Trump gets more Hispanic and Black votes it's because they are voting for him and not voting Republican)

I'm a conservative with libertarian leanings. (Which is like saying I'm a faithful husband with philandering leanings.)

I'm a Classical Liberal. (Which means you're a liberal and not a conservative. And BTW, the Classical Liberals the BoomerCons so admire lived at a time when women, minorities, and the poor didn't have a vote and the monarch could veto what the rich white men voted on. Does any BoomerCon want to deny the vote to any of these groups in order to guarantee Republican majorities?)

Conservatism is about protecting individual liberties and against statism and collectivism. (Forgetting that the original "right" favored monarchy over the emerging democratic opposition. If all a person cares about is individual liberties then just go join the Libertarian Party and try and save it from the clown show that it has devolved into. Dave Smith seems to be trying hard to do so and probably could use the help.)

I couldn’t make any sense of that strange rambling, can you try to make it more clear what you were trying to say?

The Boomer belief in shibboleths like assimilation being the inevitable result for all immigrants, even though there’s no evidence that that’s the case, even for the “Great Wave” people as you pointed out.

We were all raised in the civil rights era, right? MLK and “the content of a mans character...” among other slogans are accepted truths, especially for the Northeastern Republican “moderates”. Think Bush family.

But the last 40 years have shown it all to be wishful thinking. Being “socially liberal” (e.g., being open to mass non-White immigration) and “fiscally conservative” used to be a socially acceptable position to take in polite company. Unfortunately, it’s insane, and merely means that you’re on the slow road to hell. You’re still gonna get there.

So BoomerCon, Normies, a few other semi-derogatory terms are now terms for those who still cling to these idealistic ‘60s concepts while thinking that just being for low taxes is all you need.

What boomer belief?

I have been on this immigration thing since my teens and am the most anti-immigration guy on FR and have been here almost 20 years and I have no idea what you guys are talking about.

A conservative can’t be “socially liberal” so I don’t get your war against conservatism or why you think you would be banned at FR for being the ideology of the forum.

Socially liberal republicans and libertarians are who get banned here if they push their social liberal or immigration agenda.

You start off pretty good, but get muddled halfway through. The US hasn’t had European-style Throne and Altar conservatism since at least 1776, and it’s not coming now. It’s true that libertarians who call everything “statist” are a blight, but it’s also true that American conservatives — at their best — have been opposing increased government power since at least the New Deal. And while we certainly don’t need to import the whole world, more and more Latinos or Hispanics are voting Republican.

The TLDR alternative is that BoomerCons are basically liberals who just want things to be the way they were N years ago. Some just want things to be they were in the 90's while others wish we could go back to the 50's.

My "ramblings" were basically a list of things the BoomerCons still spout here on FR that really make no sense anymore, and really made no sense in the 90's or 50's.

Why would you despise conservatives and conservatism and even make up what you see as a derogatory name for them?

I'm not despising conservatives. I'm pointing out the idiocy of people who are liberal claiming to be conservatives.

I love Freepers. I just wish they didn't believe such silly and self-defeating ideas.

You are attacking conservatives and the Trump voting age group.

The name you are using isn’t ‘boomer liberals’, it is ‘boomer conservatives’.
