It should mean too we should be able to negotiate prices in advance.

90% of Americans, even professed “conservatives,” will hate the idea, because they have become SO used to other people paying - but America needs a completely free-market, free-choice, free association, and unregulated alternative medical system, to run alongside, and as an eventual outlet from, our bloated, expensive government-directed one, which will some day collapse with Fed.gov’s bloated debt.

What if, they wake you up in the middle and say,
“We’ve done all that we can do for the price that we discussed.”

Hospitals now require upfront payments for surgeries

Except convicted criminals, illegal aliens, gang bangers, narcotics traffickers, Muslim terrorists, and child traffickers.

They are already overbilling those with insurance to cover those who don’t pay.

“ Approximately half of adults would be unable to pay a $500 medical bill in full without going into debt”

Whoah Nelly. That’s awful.

I had an outpatient procedure done a little over a month ago in the local hospital, and it was the first time I have ever had to pay the co-pay before the procedure. I paid cash, which messed with the cashier’s brain; at least I didn’t pay the co-pay with singles 🙂

The New motto or oath is:

Do No Harm UNLESS they can’t pay up front

Ya know, the last four times I needed (very minor) surgeries, (Uninsured,/ 'self insured'/ 'Fee for Service patient,) I TRIED to pay up front, and they refused to even discuss it. Every time, the people I tried to discuss it with said:"Lets get you fixed up first, then you can worry about what it costs.

I bet even if these hospitals do make you 'pay upfront', and you do, bills for incidental (and maybe even completely false) charges will trickle in for months.

What does this mean for the Veterans Administration’s Community Care office, who presides over all veterans’ ‘off VA campus care?

The entire medical industry and the insurance biz are eff’d up bad.

This country has no problems whatsoever sending hundreds of billions to other countries, all while forcing U.S. citizens at gun point to pay from millions of illegal aliens that those in government rolled out the red carpet for.

I had a gastroenterology group try that with me recently. They were acquired by a private equity group. They claimed my insurance might reclassify the procedure and apply my whole deductible, so they wanted $1500 up front.

I told them to pound sand and that I would cancel the procedure if they insisted. They backed off.

I then got a bill for some additional item when I had had exactly the same thing done a year ago without this additional service being added.

Medical billing is basically outright fraud and theft.

this appeals to me!! the last time I had to screw a hospital on a service payment was when they told me after the fact that an X-ray and a hole flush and liquid glue to plug a hole in my foot from a stringray barb was $8700 plus another 3K for admin fees... $11,700... i told them to go fk themselves...

Negotiation for some hospital services has been around for a very long time. Back in the 80s our first baby cost us and the insurance company something close to $4,000 out the door. However the next two babies were delivered under a negotiated agreement for about $1,000 each - no insurance company involved. That money was prepaid directly to the hospital - no additional money changed hands.

Great idea.

It’s best if they profit if the patient survives.

Pay for it upfront and their motivation to have a successful operation could be diminished.

If you factor in how much the hospital gets by harvesting the patients organs and there may be a situation where they could be motivated to have the patient pass on the table.

I experienced this 7 years ago when I broke my right wrist off my arm, requiring 2 plates and 12 screws to reattach it. Insurance covered all but 14k, which I had to pay upfront at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL. Thankfully I had the money, majority wouldn’t be as fortunate.
