Rubio’s Coastal Grill, a beloved restaurant chain known for its fish tacos, is indeed closing 48 locations in California due to the “rising cost of doing business.” These closures represent about a third of the Rubio’s locations in California, Nevada, and Arizona. Here are the key points:

Reason for Closures: The decision to close these locations was influenced by the increasing costs associated with operating in California. Minimum wage hikes, such as the recent increase from $16 to $20 per hour, have put additional pressure on businesses like Rubio’s. The rising costs, combined with other financial challenges, led to the closures.

I have no idea how an over-priced place like Rubio’s can compete against regional chains like Filiberto’s and ma-n-pa operations. They have nothing special.

Why arr businesses afraid to come straight out and declaring the exact reason they are going out of business. “High cost of doing” business is a cowardly way of avoiding the truth. The truth is that, they’re going out of business because of the high crime rates which make doing business intolerable and dangerous, while at the same time, losing customers and money.

It’s all part of the left’s plan to destroy America.

I really don't think that's their plan. They really believe they can create wealth through loan forgiveness, subsidized housing, rent control, more entitlement spending, increasing the minimum wage, etc.

They refuse to believe this is harmful to the economy. They point to all the billionaires and mega-mansions in Bel Air, and insist "the money is out there."

The left doesn't have a plan. They're just a mob that goes from demand to demand, their frustration and violence increasing when their demands are met but things don't improve.

In the 80’s the baja fish taco was brand new and Rubio’s was the first to mass market them in CA. They have been trading off of the “home of the fish taco” moniker ever since. I think the novelty wore off a long time ago, and Gruesom’s minimum wage just put the last nail in their coffin.

The food was actually pretty good years ago.

I like Rubios. If they had white table cloths and sit down dining with wait-service, I would eat there. Better than a lot of sit down Mexican places I have eaten at.
