Almost a decade ago, Poland's general staff projected that Putin would invade Ukraine and that Poland would likely have to move troops into western Ukraine to preserve a buffer zone and prevent a destabilizing torrent of refugees into Poland itself. To prepare, Poland bulked up their military and recruited Ukrainian language and culture specialists.

One can whine about "forever wars" and "not our fight" and fulminate over NATO, but in the real world, military power and success and failure in war have consequences. For those keeping score, Polish patriots fought in the American Revolution and Poland is deeply and genuinely pro-American.

Well-trained and well-equipped, the Polish military would do quite well against Russian troops, assuming that the US and NATO back Poland with logistics and keep Russia from using nukes. Since Putin knows that the Polish military would gleefully wreck his troops in combat, this limits what Russia can hope to accomplish.

Indeed, Poland could do much more to help Ukraine by sending troops to the current battle zones. And that might happen if NATO endorsed such a move.

You assume an awful lot. A lot of people died from underestimating Russia’s military strength. I don’t have much faith in NATO or the military strength of the west. The war in Ukraine isn’t Afghanistan or Iraq where the West has dominance over the other country. The clowns leading the west have already destroyed Ukraine. Now they want to escalate the war by sending troops into Ukraine. I guarantee they will beg America to save their ass again. The problem is I don’t think we have the military strength we think. Obama and Biden did a good job destroying our military.

The Polish military is no longer under any illusion that Russian troops are poor quality and easy to defeat. Russian forces relieve the latest equipment, 6 months of training, and there are no longer 380k Russian soldiers but 1.2m and the number goes up 300,000k each six months.

Poland like Ukraine will find out that Russian drones are now more plentiful than Ukrainian and are just another layer of superiority of the Russian military.

Oh, Russia will eliminate western forces as a priority over Ukraine forces. I suspect Russia will use neutron bombs and possibly their liw radiation tactical nuclear weapons on EU soldiers as a response to attacks inside Russia.
