I have peripheral neuropathy and don’t have diabetes. Have had it for years and Lyrica [or its generic form] aid in minimizing the nerve pain. It IS a thing. Thanks for explaining it further.

Lyrica (pregabalin) was developed following development of Neurontin (gabapentin) derived from some 80K possible chemical compounds. Gabapentin first indicated for focal seizures and as add on therapy of seizure disorders (epilepsy, trauma induced seizures from head injuries, etc).

Nearly all anti-seizure medications have been studied and finally used in the treatment of neuropathic pain (example: carbamazapine). Thus gabapentin first used by neurologists for treating pain. Pregabalin specifically a derivative agent followed on to the gabapentin development.
