The biggest upside for Trump to do a debate in June is that it effectively shuts down any and all court cases against him — at least the Federal ones. The optics would be very much in Trump’s favor if he is being prosecuted for espionage and “insurrection” while the sitting president is acknowledging his legitimacy as a candidate.

Excellent point AC, but don’t think the trials , ongoing or on hiatus, won’t be a major subject in the debate, from the Dem side, one way or another. That would constitute another big roll of the dice like they’ve been doing since Day One of the Biden admin., and they figure they might as well keep doing it and figuring ways for it NOT to backfire.
