A group of foreign bondholders have taken steps to force Ukraine to begin repaying its debts as soon as next year, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.
If they succeed, Kiev could haemorrhage $500 million every year on interest payments alone.
The group, which includes investment giants BlackRock and Pimco, granted Kiev a two-year debt holiday in 2022, gambling that the conflict with Russia would have concluded by now.
With no end to the fighting in sight, the lenders have now hired lawyers at Weil Gotshal & Manges and bankers from PJT Partners to meet with Ukrainian officials and strike a deal whereby Ukraine would resume making interest payments next year in exchange for having a significant chunk of its debt written off, anonymous sources told the Wall Street Journal.
The group holds around a fifth of Ukraine’s $20 billion in outstanding Eurobonds, the newspaper reported. While this figure represents a fraction of Ukraine’s total external debt of $161.5 billion, servicing the interest on these bonds would cost the country $500 million annually, the bondholders said.
Should the bondholders fail to strike a deal with Kiev by August, Ukraine could default. This would damage the country’s credit rating and restrict its ability to borrow even more money in the future.

It’s LOL that they sold off even more after the aid package.
I haven’t looked in a few weeks.

Ukraine is flush with another 61 billion of goodies from the US taxpayer. The cash part is fungible. Bottom line Black Rock will end up with US taxpayer money in its pockets

If they succeed, Kiev could haemorrhage $500 million every year on interest payments alone. Oh dear, that means Crooked Joe has to get them another $550 million a year from the taxpayers. The extra $50 mil is 10% for the Big Guy.

The Black Rock guys are trying to get their bucks out of the what is going to be the last round of funding before the Ukraine goes broke.
In fact, paying off Black Rock was part of the obsession and pressure to get the Ukraine bucks allocated

Is there anything the USA is not paying for regarding Ukraine? I’d say blowjobs, but I’m unsure even about that! Burisma in Ukraine paid for Hunter Biden's regular supply, so there is that.

Much of the most recent $61 billion most recently gifted to Ukraine' actually went to elites and weapons manufacturers not in the Ukraine. A significant chunk was directed to weapons manufacturers(US) who have already produced and delivered weapons systems, but were not yet paid, and the explanation there, according to some, was that those weapons were already delivered without Congressional approval. Apparently, some would rather not ask for permission, and waited to porkroll the needed funds in later spending. I mean the weapons manufacturers could say, "If you don't pay us we'll make a big deal over the fact that you bought and gave weapons to the Ukraine without Congressional approval." So now Payola happens.
Of the $61 billion, most goes to elites and $10 Billion goes to the Ukraine, or more likely, Ukrainian and NATO elites.
Or was the Ukraine's $10 Billion cut our normal 'allowance' given to falsely portray the Ukraine as a functioning nation, and not the 51st (welfare) State of the Union.
In the second box below, bimboeruption itemizes some of America's expenditures in the Ukraine - e.g., Ukrainian pensions, salaries etc. If you decide to read it, recall the core of their workforce is injured, fled (refugee), or dead, and recall also that Putin is destroying Ukrainian infrastructure including the power grid, and anything plugged into the power grid, by constant 'switching'.
What Ukraine? What economy? How can a piles of exhausted/suffering citizens and debris have debt? Isn't the Ukraine going to be divided between Putin on the East and neighboring countries on the west - or as someone else said, is the Ukraine Blackrocks new realestate? So maybe Blackrock wants money before the 'save Ukraine!' sham collapses?
In the Bloggers & Personal forum, on a thread titled Ukraine to Become 51st US State? [semi-satire], ransomnote wrote: |
When I read stories about the US funding the Ukraine's salaries, pensions etc. in addition to the weapons funding (north of $130 Billion), I wonder how much money the US is really providing. For example, the black ops wing of our government does not have to report funding to Congress - so no one knows how many billions we really give them. In the General/Chat forum, on a thread titled Ukraine War Map Shows Russian Offensive Stalling After Avdiivka Win, bimboeruption wrote: | excerpted by ransomnote: According to a Feb. 2023 report by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), we are funding the salaries of 618,000 Ukrainian educators, 517,000 health workers, and 56,500 first responders. We are paying to sustain Ukraine’s critical healthcare services, meet its pension responsibilities for 9.8 million people, assist 1.3 million internally displaced persons, provide housing assistance to 4.1 million people, and provide social assistance to 240,000 low-income families and 480,000 persons with disabilities. We subsidize Ukraine’s small businesses, buy seeds and fertilizer for Ukrainian farmers and fund divers who clear unexploded ammunition from the country’s rivers to make them safe again for swimming and fishing. Americans pay to secure Ukraine’s borders while millions of welfare seeking barbarians and terrorists flood through ours. |
