April 16, 1947, was the hanging-date of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss.

Not to be confused with the Rudolf Hess, the Nazi party defector held by the British in lonely confinement in Spandau until 1987, Höss was true to the swastika from beginning to end.

A World War I survivor, our guy joined the right-wing Freikorps paramilitaries and scored NSDAP party number no. 3240 in 1922 — soon thereafter proving a willingness to shed blood for the cause by murdering a teacher suspected of betraying to the French the Nazi martyr figure Albert Leo Schlageter. Höss served only a year in prison for the crime.....

If you have not seen it yet, I highly recommend “The Zone Of Interest”.

“A World War I survivor, our guy joined the right-wing Freikorps paramilitaries”

???????????????????

I stopped reading right there.

NOTHING about the Nazi party was right-wing, from their beginnings to the way they ran the country to the way way they met their ignominious end.

They were Leftist through and through, top to bottom, beginning to end.

My grandfather, a veteran of both world wars, and a Nazi, would have been really pissed off by that characterization.

Höss should be considered a hero in the quest to save the planet from anthropogenic global warming. By exterminating between 1 and 3 million people, he significantly reduced mankind’s carbon footprint.

I see your idiotic perspective voiced repeatedly in American right-wing circles.

Does it really matter if they were left or right?

The best analogy is that Communists and Nazis were two rabid dogs fighting over the same bone.

Being the only guy right in a room full of people who are wrong is not a new experience for me.

In the movie Operation Eichmann, Hoss was played by John Banner (Sgt Schutz of Hogan’s Heroes). Werner Kemplerer (Klink) played Eichmann.

They were NOT comedic in this movie.

The word Socialist in their own name that they called themselves is a dead give away.

A socialist whether Communist or Fascist is the same thing.

China is a people’s republic? North Korea a democratic republic? Iran a republic? Dead giveaway?

Should have hanged both Rudolfs, just to be sure.

Anyone who identifies as “Anti-Something”, is just as bad as the thing they are “Anti”.

Hoss is the protagonist of the recent movie “Zone of Interest”, which I recommend, and I assume that is why this was posted. The movie is about his life and his family, their garden, horseback riding, etc. It is basically a British production in German with subtitles.

China is a people’s republic? North Korea a democratic republic? Iran a republic? Dead giveaway?

Why did you ignore the word socialist in my comment?

Then you seemed to supplant the word Democratic and Republic in these socialist dictatorships as something significant.

Not having the word socialist in these Communist and Islamic countries does not negate the NAZIs calling themselves Socialist, which was a dead giveaway that they were socialists.

Meant to add ... Höss was prominently portrayed in “War And Remembrance”, and also the movie “Nuremberg”. (Which I admit is detracted because of Alec Baldwin’s presence in it).

Auschwitz killed 1-3 million people, by far the most of any camp. Mostly, Jews, but also, gypsies, gays, and some Soviet POWs. Hoss was convicted by the Communist Polish government, and old fashioned slow hanged using a step stool.

He was relieved of duties for a while for having an affair with a camp inmate, as sort of depicted in the movie. The movie showed everything from his point of view though. The movie doesn’t show what happened to Hoss.
