A dozen of America’s most prominent mainstream media outlets have published an open letter urging Joe Biden and Donald Trump to agree to debate before the 2024 election. Letter signatories included ABC News, The Associated Press, CBS News, CNN, C-SPAN, Fox News, NBC News, NewsNation, Univision, NPR, PBS NewsHour and USA Today.
The letter calls on the two leading candidates “to publicly commit to participating in general election debates before November’s election."

Trump has already vowed to debate Biden “anytime, anywhere anyplace,” but Biden has refused to commit.

The Dying Priest
In Washington , D.C. an old priest lay dying in the hospital. For years he had faithfully served the people of the nation’s capital and was well known among the elected officials. He motioned for his nurse to come near.
“Yes, Father?” said the nurse.
“I would really like to see President Biden and Senator Schumer before I die, “whispered the priest.
“I’ll see what I can do, Father”, replied the nurse.
The nurse sent the request to The President and Congress and waited for a response. Soon the word arrived; President Biden and Chuck Schumer would be delighted to visit the priest.
As they went to the hospital, Biden commented to Schumer , “I don’t know why the old priest wants to see us, but it will certainly help our images and might even get me re-elected.”
Schumer agreed that it was a good thing.
When they arrived at the priest’s room, the priest took Biden’s hand in his right hand and Schumer’s hand in his left hand. There was silence and a look of serenity on the old priest’s face.
Finally President Biden spoke. “Father, of all the people you could have chosen, why did you choose us to be with you as you near the end?”
The old priest slowly replied, “I have always tried to pattern my life after our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
“Amen”, said Biden.
“Amen”, said Schumer.
The old priest continued, “Jesus died between two lying thieves; I would like to do the same.”
what it means is biden’s handlers know that live debates between biden and trump absolutely 100% guarantee that biden will lose the general election ...
they know that biden’s horrific performance would be worse than incurring the universal displeasure of the media ...
At Trump’s Pennsylvania rally a couple of days ago he had a sign “ANY TIME. ANY WHERE. ANY PLACE.”

I disagree. Biden knows Trump would demolish him, or at least his people do. They’re terrified of Trump. They’ll do almost anything to prevent Slow Joe from being on the same stage as him.

He’s going to pull the Katie Hobbs model of never campaigning and act like Trump doesn’t exist and use the schtick he isn’t worth debating blah blah…
Hoping the media and early voting get him another term.
He won’t do it because he wouldn’t last 5 minutes with Trump. I have my doubts that he will even be on the ‘Rat ticket in a few weeks.

No more debates will all liberal ‘moderators’... Two conservatives - two liberals. And the conservatives can’t be never-Trumpers and the liberals can’t be West backers.
I would like to see Pres. Trump announce he has 2nd thoughts.
Something like.:
“It would be unfair to debate Pres. Biden in Pres. Biden’s condition. It’s really a shame but I just can’t take advantage of him that way.”
Two reasons the Drive-Bys want debates.
One for the ratings and revenue. The other to keep attention away from other candidates led by RFK Jr.
How would anyone know it isn’t just ol’ Lunch Bucket Joe being himself? Do you remember when Biden debated Paul Ryano in the VP debates in 2008? Biden was making all these weird chuckles and faces while Ryano was talking. I still don’t know why Ryano didn’t pause and ask Brandon if he needed medical intervention. If no one found Biden off the wall then so I’m not sure they would notice now.
In 2028, Ron DeSantis (or the Republican candidate) should not agree to the debates if they are "handled" by liberal moderators from one of the mainstream networks.

If the media don’t have an ulterior motive, then they believe a Trump win is inevitable and have switched into CYA mode. I’m guessing, ulterior motive. There are a number of possibilities of what that may be.
There are no “mainstream news outlets” in the U.S.A.
One thing I can say with certainty is that they’re not doing this because they care about democracy and want to ensure that the electorate is as well informed as possible. All other explanations are on the table.
