The Ds made an issue of the fact that McCain was born in Panama though on a US military installation and to American citizen parents and his military father was serving there...
In 1964 the Ds also started to make an issue about Big Daddy George Romney who was born in Mexico to newly minted Mexican parents but he lost 800/40 to Barry Goldwater for the GOP nomination so that fight was dropped...
However Barry had his own possible problem he was born in AZ while it was still a territory...a debatable situation at that time...
