Livid Trump Vows to Appeal Latest E. Jean Carroll Verdict, 'There Is No Longer Justice in America'
Red State ^ | 01/26/2024 | Bob Hoge

Posted on 01/26/2024 7:24:21 PM PST by SeekAndFind

An angry Donald Trump responded on social media Friday to the stunning $83.3 Million verdict in a New York courtroom ordering him to pay advice columnist E. Jean Carrol – who accused the former president of sexual assault – for defaming her.

"Absolutely ridiculous!" he raged on his social media platform Truth Social. "THIS IS NOT AMERICA!"

He vowed to appeal the decision:

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights. THIS IS NOT AMERICA!

He also blasted how the justice system is being twisted by Democrats who seemingly will do anything to "Get Trump".

The former president, who frequently clashed with the judge during the trial, lashed out at the unfair treatment he received. It was a one-sided trial, he argued:

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Judge Kaplan refuses to allow the Anderson Cooper Interview on CNN of E. Jean Carroll wherein Carroll says, “Rape is sexy,” and numerous other things that totally exonerate me. Judge Kaplan is refusing me my Constitutional Right to Due Process, to defend myself against this False Accusation. This is a one-sided trial, where the other side is allowed everything, and we are allowed nothing. He is an extremely abusive individual, the likes of which few have seen before!

He is referring to the many strange things Carroll said over the last few years, including that "I think most people think of rape as sexy" and that she wouldn't pursue rape charges against Trump because she "would find it disrespectful to the women who are down on the border and who are being raped around the clock without any protection, they're young women..." Hm, what?

The saga has had many twists and turns since Carroll first made the wild accusation in a book she authored, claiming that Trump lured her into a dressing room in the 1990s at a crowded Manhattan department store and raped her

This is actually not the only defamation suit brought against Trump by the columnist; amazingly, Carroll filed another one over statements he made in 2022. Although that case was filed after the one that was decided Friday, it ended first -- in May -- because of delays in the first trial. That one also ended favorably for Carroll and resulted in a $5 million jury verdict against Trump.

Ms. Carroll, 80, filed two lawsuits against Mr. Trump. The first, in 2019, accused the former president of making disparaging comments and branding her a liar in response to the publication of her book “Why Do We Need Men? A Modest Proposal.”

...Mr. Trump immediately denounced her, first in a statement issued from the White House that day that accused her of being motivated by trying to sell her book, and again the following day when reporters crowded around him at the White House to ask about the accusations.

In 2022, Ms. Carroll filed a second lawsuit, accusing Trump of rape, and a new defamation claim based on social media statements in October of that year in which Mr. Trump accused her of perpetrating a hoax. She was able to sue over the rape accusation after New York passed a law giving adult sexual assault victims a one-time opportunity to file civil cases even if the statute of limitations had long expired.

BREAKING: Federal Jury Issues Verdict in Trump Rape and Defamation Case

This whole sordid affair reminds me of the Brett Kavanaugh drama when Christine Blasey Ford claimed the now-Supreme Court Justice assaulted her almost four decades ago. She wasn't quite sure where (except that it occurred at a "party house"), she didn't know when, no eyewitnesses to the alleged action came forward, Blasey Ford's testimony was an inconsistent mess -- and yet she was believed by many and still is today.

How Trump is essentially being told to pay $83.3 Million for denying that the rape occurred is beyond me. You're not allowed to argue for your innocence anymore?

It's hard not to agree with the GOP front-runner's tweet, "Our Judicial System is Broken and Unfair!"

He’s absolutely right. This is no longer America. This is an updated Soviet dictatorship where a political opponent is attacked relentlessly under cover of authority. The law and the Constitution be damned.
Very scary to see what’s happening here.
Prayers for President Trump.
🙏🙏🙏

Apparently in the new America if someone accuses you of something you can’t say I didn’t do it you either have to say I did it or keep your mouth shut

This latest verdict occurred while a previous verdict was under appeal. So, if the Second Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, or SCOTUS throws out that verdict, this one must go too. This woman wrote a book about Trump, and then sued for libel when he responded. IMHO, she became a public figure when she published her book. Eventually, this gets tossed, BUT never underestimate how much damage a single bad judge can do. They get away with a lot in our system.

That skank needs to be appealed right into poverty. The judge deserves jail.

In fact, both the judge and E. Jean Carroll deserve to be behind bars.

The link name was not created by me.

Given the $83 million verdict, the link name is of great public interest.

Trump and his lawyers should thank the judge for being so blatantly biased and unfair, and denying him his right to defend himself against the charges or present evidence that he was innocent, that they will be assured a victory upon appeal

Rudy said today that the reason caroll can’t come up with a date of the supposed sexual attack is because she might accidentally pick a day that Trump was out of the country, or in mara lago with plenty of witnesses and her case woudl fall apart at the seams

“You don’t feel like a victim?” Cooper asked.

“I was not thrown on the ground and ravished, which, the word ‘rape’ carries so many sexual connotations. This was not sex...this was not sexual,” Carroll said

Civil judges should not have taxpayer-funded security.

If they say security is compensation, they can make payment arrangements with the IRS.

RE: Apparently he never heard of the McDonald’s hot coffee settlement?

For those too young to remember...

Stella Liebeck was a 79-year-old woman who, in 1992, accidentally spilled a cup of McDonald’s coffee on herself while sitting in the passenger seat of her grandson’s car. This seemingly mundane incident would go on to become one of the most famous and misunderstood legal cases in American history. Here’s why she sued McDonald’s:

The Burn:

The coffee was served at an excessively hot temperature - around 180-190 degrees Fahrenheit, significantly hotter than other coffee outlets and hot enough to cause third-degree burns in seconds.

The cup’s design lacked proper insulation or warning about the scorching contents.

When Liebeck attempted to add cream and sugar while holding the cup between her knees, the flimsy cardboard lid came off, spilling the entire scalding beverage onto her lap.

Liebeck initially sought a reasonable $20,000 to cover her medical expenses, but McDonald’s refused.

After evidence about the coffee’s temperature and knowledge of prior burn incidents came to light, a jury awarded Liebeck $200,000 in compensatory damages and a whopping $2.7 million in punitive damages, intended to punish McDonald’s for their reckless disregard for customer safety.

The judge reduced the punitive damages to $640,000, deeming the original amount excessive.

Before any appeals were heard, both parties reached a confidential settlement, the details of which remain unknown.

Based on this, I am not even suer if the MacDonald’s case is relevant to this one ( other than the excessive amount awarded to the woman ).

In E. Jean Carrol’s case, she sued Trump for an alleged sexual assault incident that she said happened nearly 30 years ago where there was ABSOLUTELY NO WITNESS and where she could not even name the exact date it happened.

I bet you’re right.

It’s as they say, “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”

She probably came on to him one day and he didn’t want anything to do with her. She’s still bearing a grudge.

Plus, she’s likely been paid off to press these charges against Trump.

Praying, President Trump eventually getting this entire biased prosecution thrown out on appeal.

Well.... she did say "Rape is sexy".

She probably has a copy of "Venus in Furs" on her bookshelf. And some handcuffs, and silk rope.

Biden railroaded Clarence Thomas the same way he is railroading President Trump. Clarence Thomas went on to greatness. So will DJT.
