US base under rocket attack! A rocket barrage targeted American forces at Ain al-Assad base in western Iraq.
A number of interceptor missiles were fired by American air defense systems
Video of what looks like missile defense here

Well perhaps it’s not an “attack” “attack”! More like misduh-meaner assault? I’ll wait to hear blinkin or jomentia let us know. 😴😴😴😴😴😴😴
And Joe has no answer for protecting these US soldiers. Always on the defense is not the answer.
Sometimes the best defense is offense.
Sometimes we create or own problems.
Taking out Saddam created a power vacuum that Iran was pleased to fill.
Our strategy, policy, and RoEs are crap.
I’m still waiting on a valid argument for Serbian and Libyan bombings.
Imagine going back time and talking with George Washington. You show him a map, and circle the Ain al-Assad base in Iraq. Then you tell him the United States will someday be stationing troops there.
Washington would think you’re crazy. But he’d be wrong. You’re not crazy. America is crazy.
Some reports are saying ballistic missiles also used
Injuries now reported
Unclear if US or Iraqi
We have troops in Syria as well.
I was checking out some PMC positions. You can make 1K-2K a day doing hot extracts in some lovely corners of the world.
Lots of maritime security positions as well.
Being there illegally while we are being invaded here is not the answer.
Offense while we are $180 Trillion in debt and collapsing. Uhhhhh no.
Another day, another Iranian attack on America.
To be followed by some feckless supine words from *resident Bidet’s maladministration.
Won’t argue with you on the Saddam reference. Right before we invaded Iraq, I wrote a long-detailed post on what I thought would happen in the region if we removed Saddam. Sadly, I was pretty spot on. But that’s ancient history. The question is what do we do now? We’re there. Do we sit there and let Iran fire missile at us with impunity? Do we put our tail between our legs and leave? Or so we make Iran pay for their transgressions? So far over the last 45 years of our ongoing war with Iran they haven’t had much to worry about. We’ve pretty much acted like we weren’t at war with them, and they’ve paid no real price. Maybe it’s time we changed that perception. I’m sure they have some targets of value within our range of attack. They want to lob missiles then let’s lob missiles. I’d start with military bases, but oil platforms and port facilities wouldn’t be off the table.
I would leave because it will always be a dump.
“Putting our tail between our legs” is code for not having a legitimate argument against the logic of leaving.
Sunk cost fallacy applies.
“Yeah we were stupid, but let’s be more stupid.” Is essentially your position.
We will never use overwhelming force, so half assed measures are what would be done.
How many disasters must you see to learn?
Deer Biden meets the Iranian Headlights
Yet, only FOUR YEARS after the end of Washington’s second term we were in the First Barbary War in Tripoli in the Mediterranean. George Washington dies in 1799, only two years before that war.
The United States and Sweden fought against Tripolitanian moslems. Tripolitania had declared war against Sweden and the United States over disputes regarding tributary payments made by both states in exchange for a cessation of Tripolitatian commerce raiding at sea. United States President Thomas Jefferson refused to pay this tribute. Sweden had been at war with the Tripolitans since 1800.
This was our first war agains marauding moslems.
US personnel suffer minor injuries in Iraq base attack: U.S. officia
WASHINGTON/BAGHDAD, Jan 20 (Reuters) - U.S. personnel suffered minor injuries and a member of Iraq’s security forces was seriously wounded in an attack on Iraq’s Ain al-Asad air base on Saturday, a U.S. official said.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said initial reports indicated that the base was hit by ballistic missiles but he left open the possibility it was struck by rockets. An assessment was ongoing, the official said.

BREAKING: Over 15 U.S. Patriot surface-to-air missiles fired from al-Asad air base in Iraq to intercept incoming Iranian missiles - source
Yes, the new United States gave the Barbary Pirates a bloody nose. But Presidents Jefferson and Madison were wise enough to not put permanent garrisons there.
Now we have bases all over the place. Perhaps that’s necessary. But it reminds me of the old Roman and British Empires. They went broke doing that.
