Shohei Ohtani will sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers, with his agent Nez Balelo saying the two-way star is getting a 10-year, $700 million contract.
Ohtani posted to Instagram on Saturday saying he would play for his former team's crosstown rival starting next season after spending six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.
"I pledge to always do what's best for the team and always continue to give it my all to be the best version of myself. Until the last day of my playing career, I want to continue to strive forward not only for the Dodgers but for the baseball world," Ohtani wrote.

He’s getting paid $70 million a year?
I remember Sandy Koufax making $125,000 on a one-year contract in 1966. Wonder what he would be worth now?
“He’s getting paid $70 million a year?”
Yes, lots of money for a DH if he can’t pitch effectively in 2025 and beyond.
Not sure I would go with a ten year contract, but Shohei Ohtani is getting market rate from the Dodgers.
Max Scherzer is the only pitcher recently who’s probably worth the big money. Most arms get blown out when you reach that age by then.
Includes deffered money beyond 10 years.
70 mil to throw a ball, damn I gotta learn how to throw LOL
Insane!
But I’m not contributing to his salary since I don’t attend nor watch any games.
In fact I’ve been out of this scene so long, I haven’t even heard of the guy.

The Koufax example is a good one of why you do not want ten year contracts with pitchers.
At his peak he was off the charts brilliant—but it only lasted for a few short years.
Othani has had 2 Tommy John surgeries. How many innings does he have left on that arm? I doubt $70 MM worth.
It’s not just an arm you are buying here. I mean, he is like a cultural hero. A lot of money, to be sure. I bet he doesn’t pitch for the entire ten years.
So what, the Dodgers will still choke when they get to the PLAYOFFS.

After Kershaw’s $210 million, 7 year contract in 2014, Dodgers’ unofficial policy now is not to sign pitchers for more than three years.
No one, I don’t care who it is or what it’s for, is worth $70 per year. Period.
Excesses like this creates elitists. They have more money than they can possibly spend so they go for power. Power to make peons suffer. There are many that do this. Poster boys are Bill Gates and George Soros. And they are merely at the top of the list.
It has been said money is the root of all evil. There’s much truth to it.
Ohtani is an All-Star pitcher and an AS hitter. Koufax would probably be in the 40+ million annual range today. Given his short career, the team’s insurance might have been stuck for half of a long-term contract.

He will lose almost half of his income to federal and state taxes,
