I remember, there was one guy who attended Trump's 2016 victory party in military uniform. He got in trouble for that. You can't attend a political event in uniform, but civies are fine.

It is totally legal to attend as long as the service member is not in any uniform and does not try to speak in any official capacity. If they talk they should not identify themselves as that could be construed as an official military statement.
