It's not the ventilator itself. When you confine a person...particularly an older person...to bed for any length of time you increase their chances of death tremendously.

True story: I worked in a big city ER...the ER of a very famous hospital...for years. As is true of all ERs we'd get many elderly patients in from nursing homes who had fallen and fractured their hip. They were usually women. Many times after they had been worked up in the ER and were on their way to the floor I'd hear the nurses say something like "she won't leave here alive".

The reason for that is that it's never good for an elderly person to be bedridden for any length of time.

He’s partially correct. The rigid adherence to the “FDA approved” (and practically worthless) treatment protocols and the refusal of the government bureaucrats to even consider alternate treatments is the cause of hundreds of thousands of deaths.
