TED talks and their attempt to censor the concept of colorblindness

The nonsense on college campuses that is grabbing headlines deserves to be called out. But so does the nonsense at off-campus institutions that claim to support the civil deliberation of ideas but mostly provide safe spaces for progressives who have no interest in engaging viewpoints that dissent from their own. Chris Anderson, the British entrepreneur behind the popular TED Talks—online lectures that often receive millions of views—has been embroiled in a public spat with Coleman Hughes, a podcaster and prolific essayist who writes about culture, politics and race. ....He has testified before Congress and participated in academic conferences in the U.S. and Europe. And he’s only 27. In April, Mr. Hughes was invited to give a TED talk about colorblindness—the topic of his forthcoming book. The talk’s theme, as he explained recently in a podcast interview with Glenn Loury, was that colorblindness shouldn’t be a “dirty word,” which it has become on the political left. The concept “was at the core of the antislavery movement, the core of the civil-rights movement, and was later abandoned,” Mr. Hughes said. “We should reinvestigate the wisdom of it as a principle. The idea of colorblindness is that no one ever gets penalized for their racial identity. And there’s a logic to that for governing a racially diverse society in the long run.”

That’s common sense. But we live in an age when common sense is not only uncommon, it’s controversial. It’s controversial to argue that children fare better in two-parent families. It’s controversial to argue that someone who swam on the boys team last year shouldn’t be allowed to swim on the girls team this year. It’s controversial to condemn unequivocally Hamas’s massacre of unarmed Israeli civilians on Oct. 7. And yes, it’s controversial to argue that race-neutral policies are preferable to polices that promote racial favoritism.
The day after Mr. Hughes’s talk, he received a call from Mr. Anderson, who said that black employees at TED were upset by his remarks.....
Mr. Anderson explaining that he was under pressure to not post the talk online...... Another email from TED arrived, this one inviting Mr. Hughes to participate in a “moderated conversation” with an opponent of colorblindness, after which both his talk and the debate would be published online. Reluctantly, he agreed to this arrangement..... TED did the opposite of amplify my talk: they deliberately under-promoted
and sandbagged it on their website.”....As it is, the lack of standard promotion by TED has Coleman’s talk at about 10% of the views of all the other talks surrounding his on their site.”

I learned a LOT about “colr-blindedness” in Army basic training.

The drill sergeants pounded into our heads the idea that in the army there was only ONE color of soldier and that was GREEN!

This was the mid-1970’s and the cotton pickle suit was still issued. OD green.

Naturally though, it being the deep south, while on breaks, the lighter green troops could lounge around, smoke and joke while the darker green troops policed the area.

Ahem…

“the core of the civil-rights movement, and was later abandoned”

Gee, I was around for the whole ride.

Recall Martin King saying that a man should only be judged by the content of his character.

Recall Hubert Humphrey saying that quotas would never happen.

Funny how everything they said wouldn’t happen...did

The grossly misnamed, fraudulent from the beginning, “civil rights movement” was communist from the start.

Leftists lie.

All the time.

About everything.

TED talks are too often the vehicle whereby the viewers are dumbed down or led into magical gardens of BS.

Friends in Ann Arbor used to get me to watch with them, until one evening I began a running commentary refuting some Dunning-Krueger afflicted individual who thought he was an economist. We’re still friends, but they don’t invite me to those soirees anymore.

Ahh, yes, yet another example of why Liberalism is truly a Mental Disorder. Talk about the ‘crisis’ in the mental health field. When I first read about ‘microaggressions’ I knew the left was at it again. I found a UC Davis PDF on microaggressions, and, yes, talking about colorblind (considering each person as an individual) is now, to these leftist wackos, racist. Yet another example of why the left hates America, hates the Founding documents and the Founders. Every person’s rights come from God, NOT FROM GOVERNMENT! B. Hussein Obama calls the United States Constitution a bunch of negative rights because the Constitution limits government.

I used to work in an office with too many liberals. Every time one of their kids reached the age for college, I would offer them the Microaggression PDF. Some of them could not believe their eyes, so I provided the web link for the PDF.

The left will never go for it because they are the biggest racists on the planet.

To them EVERYTHING is about race.
