As a child, I read “Andree’s Story”; the doomed attempt to cross the pole in a balloon based on the diary and photographs found at their last camp site. They almost made it.
The balloon attempt was doomed because of poor understanding of the conditions.
It was sad. With a better clothing and equipment, they might have survived.
