It’s very possible, should the Lord tarry, we may witness both, a great falling away, as well as a great revival. Unless, that great revival has already come and gone in decades past.
Another sign that Luke 14:23 is in the future and not the past is Israel’s lack of a temple and preparation (yet) for a revival of the daily sacrifice (of red heifers I believe).
Daniel 9:27 tells us that this “man of sin” AKA the beast” here called “the prince” will stop the daily sacrifice “in the middle of the 70th Week” (half-way through the 7-year tribulation). Elsewhere scripture tells us this “man of sin” will “...as God sit in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God” (2 Thess. 2:4). So there has to be a temple built and a sacrifice in process in Israel during the first part of the tribulation.

Daniel 9:24-27 prophesies the future (at that time) 490 years of Israel in terms of 70 weeks (one week = seven years). The last week, the 70th Week, is the seven-year tribulation (”a time of great trouble such as never there was since there was a nation” Dan. 12:1) which we now know has been separated from the 69th Week (Jesus death on the cross (Dan 9:26)) so far for about 2000 years.
