An anchor baby is a child born to non-citizen parents, usually illegal aliens, in a country that recognizes birthright citizenship, in the hopes that the child will help his parents gain legal residency or citizenship. Ramaswamy’s parents were legally in this country and in the process of gaining their citizenship, so calling him an “anchor baby” is a stretch.
If there are objective history books in the future that fact will be noted with an asterisk and a comment to the effect of:
"It is quite interesting that this government on two closely related occasions disregarded the NBC clause its Founders thought was an essential part of its Constitution."
We will know, of course, from real time experience it is simply because there was no party in political opposition who had the guts to pursue the requirement at a formal level.
