It is difficult to ascertain just what made Florida Governor Ron DeSantis decide to run for president in 2024. Several theories have been posited. It could be that he became convinced he can take his Florida successes immediately onto the National stage, or that America is actually looking for a “fresh face” in Washington. On the other hand, it is much more likely that the “Big Money” brokers, whose financial support has become central to almost any candidacy these days, gave him the ultimatum either to move now or lose their backing. Or it may be just a matter of uncontained ego and ambition, which is the most pervasive character trait among high level politicians.

So for the DeSantis team to attempt to overtake Donald Trump on his strongest resonating issue, they must dismiss the election theft, and therefore “validate” the disgraceful RINO duplicity of Kinzinger and Cheney along with the other Democrats. This is certainly not the stuff of a great, patriotic endeavor on behalf of America. Even seemingly “indirect” references to “moving forward” or returning D.C. to it’s glory days carry a malignant undercurrent of acceptance and resignation.

Some might find the title inflammatory, but the article is worth reading.
As soon as DeSantis got some positive press on the big stage he had delusions of grandeur.
Dementia?

And he promptly forgot the people who voted for him in Florida. He has done little to help fixed income older voters who have seen rents go up by 30% and food prices double. The Democrats will have a fertile campaign ground due to the dissatisfaction of elderly voters. He forgot how close his first election was.
And other cockroaches to sunlight.
Apologies to Phylum Arthropoda, Class Insecta, and Order Blattodea.
He also doesn't understand that the Florida DNC ballot factory money was pulled for use in the 2022 US Senate "elections".
I don’t know what governors have to do with rent unless they sign some sort of rent control into law. As far as I know, DeSantis hasn’t done that, and, as a conservative, is unlikely to. As for food prices, isn’t that mostly affected by Biden’s economic policies?
DeSantis signed the Right to Farm Act in 2021 which protects farmers from nuisance lawsuits. Not sure what else he can do other than let the market take care of itself, as conservatives are wont to do.
What exactly is a governor, any governor, supposed to do about high rent and food prices? Rent is high because huge numbers of people are moving to FL. Supply and demand. You might have heard of it. Food prices are high because of a variety of factors, none of which a state governor has any control over. What a governor can do is lower taxes, which DeSantis has done.
Yes, DeSantis’ first election was close, at a time when Democrat voters in FL outnumbered Republicans by over 200,000. Now Republicans in FL outnumber democrats by more than 500,000. The democrat party is struggling in FL, holding no statewide executive offices at all, while Republicans hold a supermajority in both legislative chambers. And that is largely due to DeSantis’ policies attracting huge numbers of republicans to the state during his tenure.
Actually, living in Florida, he took deliberate steps that most people of a conservative bent, would say were conservative.
Thay’s dead in Flprida. Florida will b3 Red for a long time.
Forget it Jake, it’s Florida Man.
in Florida, if you jack up prices during a hurricane, it’s called price gouging. During covid, your calling it a free market when it wasn’t as policies in other states like NY and Ca were skewing the market, all he had to do was institute the same rules as during a hurricane emergency, and the legislature would have backed him. Funny how the people who elected him suddenly didn’t hear squat on anything but move to Florida, New Yorkers. If you like NYC, you’ll love Sarasota. my rent was being raised from 2200 to 3600, so I had to move. As someone who gave money to his campaign I am bombarded with emails , but zero response to my issues when I send an email to the Governors office, and I used to get responses. The latest move by our wonderful state bureaucrats is a pharmacy crackdown. Now your doctor, pharmacy and home must be close to each other. So the doctors I have gone to for over ten years are now too far away for my pharmacy chain which i have used for also over ten years to fill, even though Florida licences doctors, pharmacists and nurses statewide. ( in my case my nursing license is good in almost 40 states due to the ecompact agreements) and Florida has an online drug tracking system that shows any filled prescriptions in the state. The DEA and Florida are going after the pharmacists mostly because they are low hanging fruit. So bust pharmacists for legal prescriptions that are from 31 miles away and forget the fentanyl dealers who are killing people because it’s easier to lock up a pharmacist. Florida ureaucratic rulings are like DC’s rulings, they help rich people , not middle class
Indeed.
Nice straw man, but I wasn’t speaking about hurricanes or covid. Your post was projecting into the future and anticipating Democrats winning due to high rent and food prices. I explained why that isn’t an issue. Now you’re moving the goldposts, and complaining about pharmacies and doctors, another issue where the governor, any governor, has limited power.
You don’t like DeSantis. Fair enough. But thinking a governor, any governor, can wave a magic wand and make your particular problems go away, is immature.
As soon as DeSantis started listening to the “experts” he was doomed.
Liz Cheney is a never Trumper. She’s despised Trump since the day he ran for President.
DeSantis supporters, on the other hand, are almost all former Trump supporters, especially at the grass roots. We’ve just ran out of patience with Trump, and lost hope he’s ever going to ever do anything but run his mouth, and cause himself, and us by extension, more trouble than he already has.
If Trump would get his act together, and actually do more than just scream in all caps on his website every day, a lot of us would even come back to supporting him.
But right now, we see him more as a former good person, who’s just lost it at this point. I’ve even heard many posters on here who still support Trump 100% try to explain his behavior now as someone who’s suffered PTSD from 2020. Could be, I expect a lot of Americans have.
Trust no one that denies election fraud took place in 2020.
BullsH$T. You're the types that were forced to get behind Trump because the candidate you supported in 2016 lost to him in the primaries, those aligned with the Republican establishment but still hoped to get something out of the Trump Presidency.
No true conservative would continue to support DeSantis after he's denied election fraud, flip flopped on the proxy war in Ukraine and is clearly owned by the GOP establishment and its donors.
