"For nearly a year, buses were virtually empty in Montgomery. Boycott supporters walked to work--as many as eight miles a day--or they used a sophisticated system of carpools with volunteer drivers and dispatchers. Some took station-wagon "rolling taxis" donated by local churches. The bluster of "let them go" and the like ignores "costs." As you observe, "Brics accounts for 32% of global GDP and 40% of the global population."Montgomery City Lines lost between 30,000 and 40,000 bus fares each day during the boycott. The bus company that operated the city busing had suffered financially from the seven month long boycott and the city became desperate to end the boycott.

The question is one of doing business. If trade is conducted in "other than the dollar," there will be an effect which will be measurable. To what degree, one probably cannot calculate accurately in the moment.
But a recent "boycott," which Annheuser-Busch thought would blow over, has not. Additionally, one reads of EVs sitting on car lots and in showrooms. "Cutting the cable" and similar behavior have changed things in a very observable manner. And the anti-Russian sanctions packages, number now twelve (?), are impacting the EU nations in ways not foreseen. To think "it can never happen" is a poor plan, when "it" happens.
In the case of the Montgomery bus line above, it took seven months to have the effect desired by some and rejected by others. But it happened. And how much has Budweiser lost in terms of market share?
Regards.
After the West completes its suicide in energy and food production, what percentage of those commodities will BRIChinaS produce?
India is the weak link in BRICS. More than Russia, it has a natural rivalry with China, and has fought several border skirmishes. The country was ruled by Britain for two centuries, and English is effectively the common language. India is not totalitarian unlike China, and does not have the equivalent of the CCP, which is both a Mafia and an enforcer of ideology. Instead of obsessing over Ukraine or now West Africa, the rulers of the West need to court India.
