Trump collected $250 million to contest the election, but never used any of that money to actually do that, according to reports.
All of his current staff told him he lost the election, according to the testimony on record. Apparently only Giuliana told him he should fight it, but Trump never even paid Giuliana for his 2020 legal services according to reports, in the end, saying he was unworthy of it.
Trump apparently hired two firms to investigate whether the election was stolen, and both reported back, they couldn't really find anything. At least nothing to overturn the results.
Which is likely why Trump went and hid in February 2021, rather than mount any actual contest of the election, which was the point he finally had legal standing to contest it.
So, as you said, it's "an idea" at this point. One that was never followed up on.
