A reporter for Milwaukee, Wisconsin station WTMJ-TV said on Twitter that she fled the Country Thunder music festival Friday night after a male patron twice called her the ‘n-word’ and people laughed at her instead of helping. The reporter, Taylor Lumpkin, apparently has not posted any video of the incident nor any video from her time at the festival.
Jason Aldean, who has drawn criticism from the left for his song “Try That in a Small Town”, played the song during his headliner set at the festival Saturday night. Wisconsin Speaker of the State Assembly Robin Vos (R) tweeted his support of Aldean on Saturday
Lumpkin wrote on Twitter Friday night, “Went to cover this event tonight for a news story. Left humiliated after a guy ran up and yelled at me (unprovoked), and called me a N***** twice. No one helped. Everyone stared at me, and laughed. Do better people.”
Lumpkin’s tweet has over 1.2 million views. She thanked supporters on Saturday, saying, “Thank you all for the outpouring of love and support you have shown me. It means more to me than you will ever know. Being a black, female journalist in this industry is difficult. But knowing so many are in my corner, gives me the strength to keep going. Love always wins”
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported a statement by WTMJ vice president and general manager Joe Poss:
“We are appalled that one of our reporters was subjected to a racial slur while producing a news story. We stand against all forms of racism and have a core commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion,” Poss said. “What happened to Taylor Lumpkin at a music festival should not happen to anyone, anywhere. It is painful and heartbreaking when something awful like this occurs. Our focus right now is on supporting Taylor.”
The festival also drew criticism from Wisconsin Public Radio reporter Corrine Hess for a Confederate battle flag being flown, “Seems pretty tone deaf for the Kenosha News to run front page photo of a Confederate Flag with a headline saying “Setting up to have a really great time””
The fact is that regardless of what the media says, rural white people just do not act this way. I realize the media and the left thinks rural people are all much like the young mentally slow banjo player from the movie “Deliverance” and we all have no teeth. And, that we hang black people for fun on Saturday evenings. However, that depiction has no relationship with reality. You are more likely to find that type of language at a rap concert....being spoken by the “musicians”.
We are supposed to believe that there was actually one person who was paying attention to this one black female reporter to the point they would call her such a name? It’s not reasonable and doesn’t make sense.
It’s a good thing they didn’t call her a Nazi or “white supremacist”. If she was a Republican, they probably would have. Her news idiot credentials saved her life. They knew she was a RAT when they saw the news credentials hanging off her neck.
Right, and they were all waving around little mini nooses.

I call BS on this story. She is looking for some recognition. If you can’t earn it, lie for it.

I am so tired of blacks treating each other with verbal, physical and emotional abuse. Using all kinds of language in. Ant cRap song but they imagine insults and run from fear.
My side street is the cut-through to the local convenience store, so there’s always kids walking, bicycling, etc.
The n-word is gaining provenance across the spectrum. It’s kind of like the f-word, sprinkled meaninglessly.
You left out “your father was the one I missed”, I used to get that a lot too.
We have. It sounds more like she was resentful to cover an event attended by people she doesn’t like and decided on a dramatic way to get out of the assignment. Not very clever or creative, and definitely not professional.
I know Taylor lumpkin. She is not the type to lie, but these days, there are some ignorant people who may resort to such name calling...

Not necessarily. I haven’t delved into the circumstances, but got the impression this claim involved a barked insult in passing, not an extended confrontation. Having witnessed (admittedly, many years ago) jerks doing exactly that type of thing, I find it at least plausible. Also plausible that she is outright hoaxing to “make a difference” by exposing racism she “just knows” abounds but is being hidden, or that her brain heard what it wanted to hear to validate her expectations.
She got what she came for.
