No amount of slinging trash at Trump will make DeSantis smell one bit sweeter or poll 1% higher.

Sorry Charlie. We need tariffs. It is asinine for us not to apply tariffs when other countries use them against our goods.

Mr. Pruitt had been hailed by conservatives for his zealous deregulation, but he could not overcome a spate of questions about his alleged spending abuses, first-class travel and cozy relationships with lobbyists.

Mr. Pruitt also came under fire for enlisting aides to obtain special favors for him and his family, such as reaching out to the chief executive of Chick-fil-A, Dan T. Cathy, with the intent of helping Mr. Pruitt’s wife, Marlyn, open a franchise of the restaurant.

The EPA's budget was mandated by Congress. Pruitt had to spend the money. He couldn't give it back. So instead of spending it enforcing job-killing environmental regulations, he spent it on frivolities. Every dime that Pruitt wasted on sound-proof telephone booths was a dime not spent in enforcing EPA regulations. Now that was MAGA!

Cozying up with lobbyists who had a vested interest in seeing environmental regulations repealed? Big deal.

Problem is, the Left believes that the EPA belongs to them regardless of who is in the White House so they put a target on Pruitt's back that the media was more than happy to amplify. And Trump bent the knee.

“pay $2000 for a USA-made TV when a Chinese-made one costs them $200”

This is such a stupid argument that has been trashed by High School debaters. Meke it here. Jobs here. Salaries here. Manufacturing ecosystem here. A $200 TV is too much when you don’t have a job cuz it’s all offshored. A $2,000 TV is affordable when everyone in your family is working and making a living, snd saving because you earn more than you need to survive, and buying homes because interest rates stay low.

For all the RdS Gangsters, and Florida Man diehards, can ya see that you’re wrong about everything, or do we have to make you look silly, point by point?

Florida Man is done, now and forever.
2028 is a no go.
He’s the JEB! of this cycle.

Because y’all are too butt hurt about mean tweets, you sabotage any hope for redemption.

If you would get behind our PDJT The GOAT, you can help.
If you talk to folks in those states and counties were the Theft will be attempted again, you can help.

Florida Man will not be the Nominee. No McRomBush will be either.

Get on the Trump Train, or you will be the ones that will be blamed.

I’ve posted this previously on this topic …

If you want to see a good indicator of how the U.S. would operate in a trade environment with steep tariffs, I think the electric vehicle (EV) industry offers a great case study for us. The government involvement in promoting and subsidizing EVs has results that are identical to what you'd see in tariff-protected industries. And as we can see with EVs, there are several major downsides to this kind of arrangement for ordinary Americans:

1. EVs that meet domestic production standards are heavily subsidized by the U.S. government.

2. They are inferior to their non-EV counterparts by almost any measure that would be considered important by most U.S. consumers.

3. They are more expensive than their inferior counterparts.

4. The entire industry only exists because of laws and regulations that are designed to support these inferior products and drive the superior products out of existence.

I have no problem using tariffs to generate tax revenue and protect U.S. industries, but it's important that we don't end up protecting abject idiocy masquerading as sound economic policy. Item #4 is important. Protecting, promoting and subsidizing manufactured products that are a step backwards by almost every relevant measure is lunacy.

Blame me? I've said repeatedly on this forum that if Trump EARNS the GOP nomination, I will vote for him without hesitation.

Blame the people who don't post on Free Republic. The independents and swing voters. They're the ones who will cost Trump his re-election.

I think the issue is multifaceted. Counties protect manufacturing or other products that are produced in their countries by tariffs on imports that would undercut & destroy those industries.
EV are not an example of that proper use of tariffs. EV should have no protection or subsidy.

Steel and other industries do need protection from foreign competition if we wish to have both a thriving manufacturing sector and to be able to supply our own needs in case of war. It is essential for National defense that we both improve the regulatory burden and enforce appropriate tariffs to return to having a robust industrial base.

Steel is a good example of tariff policy that is prone to going off the rails (no pun intended). Most steel is not a finished product. It is an intermediate component used in other manufacturing processes.

Impose a tariff on imported steel, and you’ve suddenly made it more expensive for other domestic U.S. manufacturers that use steel.

This is exactly what precipitated the decision by one of the major Japanese automakers (Mazda, I believe) to cancel its plans for a new U.S. plant about five years ago after the Trump administration imposed those tariffs on steel and aluminum.

I believe it is more important for US to have a steel industry exactly because steel is a component in manufacturing. There is an underlying aspect to domestic production that your analysis gives less emphasis than my summation. In case of war or hostilities we need to have a robust steel industry within America. That is why I would protect the industries we need for defense. Many car manufacturers were willing to relocate and to build plants here under the conditions fostered by Trump. Foreign companies building plants here would have savings buying steel in the US for their US plants rather than importing in many cases, they also have other savings building in the Country of final sale.

Hey Ron, you’re still young. let Trump have this one, it’s his last chance.

I think it's actually DeSantis's last chance. In 2028 DeSantis will be a termed-out former governor. Americans' attention spans are notoriously short. It's now or never for him, regardless of his age. Trump, OTOH, will always have name recognition.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't think Trump can win in 2024. He has learned nothing from 2020, won no election lawsuits, arrested no fraudulent voters, and has no plan to win over independent voters. I don't know how DeSantis will do on the national stage, but Trump seems a certain loser to me. Again, I hope I am wrong, since it looks like Trump will be the nominee.

You never ran a manufacturing business or was deeply involved in one. Your perspective is shallow and irrelevant. I spent 3 decades in manufacturing in executive positions.
