Article V For a Republic Worth Keeping (2016)
Article V Blog ^ | August 26th 2016 | Rodney Dodsworth

As I recall from Gibbon, the Western Roman Empire went out with more of a whimper than a bang. By the time of Alaric and his Visigoths in 410 AD, Rome was so corrupt and weak there was little to stand in their way. In broad strokes it is fair to say that Roman society declined simultaneously with government. Long before the fall, Roman republican citizenship was a precious possession, a jewel of unsurpassed value. As such it was held closely and kept in short supply, for among other privileges, the Roman citizen wasn’t taxed. He was exempt from the possibility of torture. Even into the empire, he could, under certain circumstances, appeal judicial rulings to the Emperor.

By the end, Roman citizenship was a burden to avoid. The citizen was taxed to the hilt. Government couldn’t protect him from domestic or foreign borne violence. Local populations built defensive walls as the means to a protection the state could no longer provide.

Today see enclaves of law-abiding citizens resort to private security. New communities are often promoted as “gated.” Bug Out plans and SHTF oriented websites are common. Public school students are taught to revile their heritage. More Americans renounce their citizenship every year. Those who remain are taxed to support millions of unwanted illegal aliens. Rulers live separate existences in an imperial city far removed in interest and wealth from the ruled. La Raza, Luis Gutiérrez and like-minded officials openly invite barbarians with the intent of overwhelming American culture, if not the annexation of western states to Mexico.

Men fight to keep that which they prize, while they let go of that which is a dead load of no value. So which is it? Is the United States worth keeping? If worth keeping, patriots must go out of their way to see that those brought up with hate of or indifference to American ideals are properly educated.

An Article V convention is perhaps the best means to bring forth American ideals into the public eye. As envisioned by the Article V State Legislators Caucus, the convention will be open to general attendance. It we be video recorded in its entirety, and probably broadcast live on C-Span. Here, the nation will view state delegations of men and women, unbeknownst to the media and congress, argue for and against the various state amendment proposals. We will see if they rise to the occasion and conduct themselves as if the eye of history is upon them. In the process, expositions on the fundamental principles of our founding are a certainty. Proponents will perhaps do verbal battle with enemies of our Declaration; so be it. It is long past time for patriots and social justice warriors to put their cards on the table and present their visions for America.

Since no society in history ever sold themselves into slavery, an Article V convention constitutes a measured risk, a measured risk in favor of free government we must take. We’ll find out if the remains of our republic are worth saving.

Nineteen states have passed the Convention of States resolution.

In seven others the resolution passed one chamber.

There’s active legislation in fifteen more.

It’s an attractive fantasy - that some convention of altruists will save the Republic. But that’s all it is - a fantasy. There are no Jeffersons or Madisons or George Washingtons among us anymore. Any Convention will be populated with the same venal creatures who infest Government today. They will gleefully use it to further cement their grip on power.

May God have mercy on us, for they will have none.

It’s a good thing not many of such people like you were around in 1775.

What do you think is the antidote for accelerating tyranny?

This would be the Deep State’s dream!

The quickest way to undo our Constitution.

Until you come up with a system that rids America of Democrats it is a waste of time.
Hard to have a Republic when half the people are
useless, lazy, and dependent.
I like the idea of city states like the Greeks had, however they were dependent on slavery of the surrounding “Suburbs”.
But in today’s world, the large cities produce so much wealth I’m they can survive on their own. Think of how much the entertainment or banking industry contributes to the GDP!
How could you live without them?

"Is the United States worth keeping? If worth keeping, patriots must go out of their way to see that those brought up with hate of or indifference to American ideals are properly educated."

I have friends, good friends that were fishing buddies, that can no longer hold a simple conversation about what's happening in our nation. They fly into rages and refuse to discuss ANYTHING about the corruption in DC..... Maybe they're ashamed. (?)

Its been that way since "Hillary". I no longer try communicate with them......a sad situation.

That being the case, why do they fight so hard against it.?

The muddled thinking here works against the thesis:

“convention will be open to general attendance.” So non-citizens can participate, legal and illegal. And it can be packed with paid demonstrators.

“expositions on the fundamental principles of our founding are a certainty.” We had open borders until the 1920s. My parents and grandparents could come and go across the border, and did, with no big government interference. Big government immigration that started small in the 1920s was a direct illogical reaction to the illogic of KKK Wilson and KKK Jennings Bryan.

KKK Wilson and illogical reaction to the illogic of KKK Wilson were the deviation from our founding.

<>it is a waste of time.<>

By your analysis, a COS can do no harm.

Wallow in your despair, just get out of the way.

I’m actually all for it, but insist it is a waste of time.
You won’t change the fundamental problem, you are sticking band aids on the festering wound.
Kind of like gun control or drug laws. The guns and drugs aren’t the problem, it is the person using them incorrectly.

The rats stole 2020 and 2022. They will not squander 2024.

Two days ago, Obiden’s DOJ got an appeals court to stay a ruling against the dozens of federal agencies that denied our 1st Amendment right to free speech.

Parents attending school board meetings are domestic terrorists.

Catholics who attend the Latin Mass are terrorists.

J6 protesters are political prisoners in a DC gulag.

President Trump is hounded with spurious lawfare.

Our right to financial and personal privacy is no more.

Men can be women.

All in the last two years.

And the Article V opponents think the GOP and elections can save the remains of our republic.

<>it is the person<>

What you propose is what we have, a nation of men.

Electing better people is insufficient effort. It is like urinating in a wetsuit when diving in cold water.

That is a sad yet common situation.

I’ve had one long time democrat friend and two never Trumpers end our friendships.

As I explained, a televised COS will thrust into every living-room the structural problems facing our republic.

Convention of States with two line items to be voted on number one repeal the 17th Amendment and number two eliminate the senior executive service which is the Deep state.

This is how the Republic is restored.

Our Founding Father’s were not stupid
