I did live in Mclean VA in high school from 1967-71. A lot of kids with dads who worked at the CIA were there. But I have no particular memory of a CIA dad or his kid telling about the JFK assisination.

My dad was in the army. His last post was at the pentagon—but he was in the medical service corp. He worked at the pentagon dispensary. During the 1967 anti war demonstrations around the pentagon—they’d pull soldiers off the line when it looked like the soldiers was not holding up to the demonstrators. They’d bring the soldiers to the pentagon dispensary. My dad said, he’d give them a cigarette and then he’d tell them to relax.

My memory of what happened with JFK rather was the result of reading a lot of articles on the subject and surmising what happened from the patchwork of information.

For example, there is plenty of information to suggest that Oswald was was employed by the CIA, that he moved to Russia, that he married a russian woman, that he had regular meetings with the russian embassy in mexico—after he returned from Russia. i have read stories about the russians bragging that they turned oswald.

“the russians bragging that they turned oswald.”

That is amusing.

What actually happened is that Counterintelligence Director James Jesus Angleton had a program to create fake “defectors” to the Soviet Union. There were seven or eight of them. They were taught Russian while in the US military and then “defected” to the Soviet Union.

In Oswald’s case he was given the specifications of the U2 (which he did not have the clearance for at the Japanese base where he served as a Marine) and he gave those specifications to the Russians.

The CIA’s motive was to disrupt peace talks between Eisenhower and the Russians—the U2 shoot-down stopped them from happening—mission accomplished.

The Russians took the bait and rewarded Oswald with a good life in Minsk—but there were probably debates within the KGB as to whether he was a legitimate defector or not—at the end of the day they were glad to be rid of him when he asked to be returned to the US.

Once Oswald became the patsy for the JFK assassination the Russians knew they had been suckered.
