The trial of Donald Trump has been tentatively set for August 14, 2023, per CNBC. This comes as a judge in Florida has reportedly told former President Donald Trump’s lawyers to not release evidence relating to the classified documents case to the media or public.
The order comes after prosecutors asked the court to put specific conditions on how the defense stored and used the documents, per Reuters. As a result, US Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart put strict conditions on Trump’s ability to access the materials.
"The Discovery materials, along with any information derived therefrom, shall not be disclosed to the public or the news media, or disseminated on any news or social media platform, without prior notice to and consent of the United States or approval of the Court," the order said, which was filed on Monday.
It also stated that Trump was not allowed to “retain copies” and that he may only review the materials “under the direct supervision of Defense Counsel or a member of Defense Counsel’s staff,” per the report.
The order comes after the former president was indicted on federal charges earlier this month, which required him to appear in a federal court in Miami. He has been accused of illegally keeping classified government documents after his exit from the White House. He has also been accused of obstructing a federal probe of the case.

A lawyer colleague told me right after the indictment to watch the trial date to see how Trump’s law team saw its chances. If they threw a slew of motions at the court to delay the onset of the trial, that would prove that they were worried about their case, but if they pushed for or accepted an early trial date, that would prove they think they can win the case. They got an early date; I hope my colleague’s analysis is accurate.
Magistrate Judge has set a lot of conditions where is the actual District Judge of the case? Can Trumps defense adequately defend Trump if they are not able to see evidence of the charges?
Isn’t this sort of case serious enough that a magistrate should be careful about placing restrictions on defense?
The Sixth Amendment guarantees the rights of criminal defendants, including the right to a public trial without unnecessary delay, the right to a lawyer, the right to an impartial jury, and the right to know who your accusers are and the nature of the charges and evidence against you.
US Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart, what type of Security Clearance does a magistrate hold? Just asking for Harry Reid’s friend......
That makes sense to me. If there is a problem for Trump they would seek to find ways to delay such that he cpuld campaign and possibly win election before a judgement is reached.
But this might also be a case of bad lawyering. I don’t know who Trump has defending him. Maybe they want to railroad Trump into a trial before he puts together his defense?
Smith did say he wanted a speedy trial, speedy conviction, and speedy execution. I think Smith is already interviewing for the firing squad, for which I’m sure several will be republicans.
Not a magistrate who will hear this case, must be a district court judge as the matter is a felony.
Trump has right to speedy trial. Prosecutor cannot demand such, only defendant.
Only reason Prosecutor would want one here would be to bring unrelated charges elsewhere if these don’t pay out, IMO. I believe there is some talk about charging a “insurection” charge. Meanwhile, the real criminal family is still guilty as sin, free as a bird.
Remember...many people in high positions can classify anything they want. A lot of trivia gets classified.
Very acute analysis. Trying to delay the case would also be highly detrimental to the conservative cause: it would make the election unwin-able for Trump, but make the primary unlose-able. Early date means the Trump campaign gets a legal vindication before campaign season, or, at least, the Republicans can avoid nominating a felon in the off chance he somehow loses.
I will still vote for President Trump...again...no matter what. This trial is just lawfare by the communist democrat party.
How long will it take to get their security clearances? Will we see the FBI fast track something that is usually slow-walked to be thorough for national security?
Once Trump's lawyers do get their security clearances, how much time will that leave them to actually mount their defense?

Trial will be in Ft. Pierce (St. Lucie Co.) Florida. In 2016 and 2020, St. Lucie Co. carried Trump with 49% and 50.4%, respectively. In 2022, St. Lucie Co. carried DeSantis to win gubernatorial re-election with 59.4%.
Just need one juror who can think straight.
Not sure I follow your “one juror” comment. Are you presuming that a hung jury would not result in a retrial?
They need to skip the jury and have the judge rule!!!
