Hacked means finding entry into FOX’s treasure trove of off air video tapes.

“Craggs said Burke spoke of having a connection to Anonymous, the international hacker collective — a claim Burke himself repeated in Netflix’s “Untold.” “He seemed to know that world in a way the rest of us did not. He’d also had this whole life in academia, and maybe a polka band at one point?”
In the documentary, Burke said that, pre-Deadspin, “I traveled in some interesting online circles, including with Anonymous, the notorious online hacker group. And I developed a reputation as somebody who finds things.”
I still don’t know what “hacked” means. At one time it meant the process of using a vulnerability in electronic storage of data by a stranger to an organization, especially where the organization storing the data is unaware of the vulnerability.
How many times have we seen “hacked” data consisting of off air video of news media celebrities? Never, obviously. Media organizations are a savvy as you can get in secure storage of this type of electronic data. This data was intentionally disseminated.
The narrative is “Burke is hacker in Annonmymous. Hackers are bad. Burke is bad. Fox is a victim. Fox is good.” This is so transparently a manufactured story.
