(NewsNation) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to formally announce his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination late next week, two sources familiar with the matter told NewsNation.
Some donors got messages Monday indicating they were invited to Miami for events on May 24 and 25 for what is expected to be an announcement event and related activities, one source said, although specifics were not provided.

Trump’s tactics are failing? Have you been paying attention to DeSantis’s poll numbers? They’ve been in free-fall for the past two or three weeks. Don’t believe in polls? Just look around Free Republic and you can see it. The number of DeSantis skeptics is clearly on the rise. That’s the problem when you emerge from the shadows. People start to take a closer look.
Trump hit DeSantis hard and early because he understood that DeSantis was the guy the Establishment was going to rally around. He recognized it months ago, when most Republican voters still naively believed DeSantis was a squeaky clean, anti-Establishment, anti-globalist, reformer.
Ron’s fluffers have stroked him into an orgasmic frenzy to run in ‘24.
So many people miss the fundamental difference between Trump and DeSantis. With DeSantis, you’re voting for a team - a team of which DeSantis is only a part, and not even the most important part. He’s the public face. His job is to go sell the team to the electorate. He does that with the help of consultants who assist him in selling the myth that he’s in charge.
The naive picture people have of the process is of DeSantis, on his own, deciding he wants to be Governor of Florida, President of the United States, or whatever, because he really wants to make a difference for the country and believes he’s the best man for the job, so he goes out and contacts some consultants to help him in his quest.
The truth of the matter is pretty near the opposite. The donors and consultants are in charge. They look for candidates to back - candidates who they think they’ll be able to count on to protect their interests. Then they reach out to them and cultivate them - stroking their ego and telling them that they have a bright future and should consider higher office. They offer help all along the way, helping him take each successive step. In short, they’re running the show. Focusing on the successes DeSantis may or may not have had in Florida, misses that essential point, and is irrelevant.
Trump is unique in many ways, but probably the most important one is that he’s in charge of his campaign/administration. He may make mistakes, but they’re HIS mistakes. He may get good or bad advice from people, he may choose to follow their advice or not follow it, but ultimately, he’s the one who makes the final decision.
Yup that’s exactly how it works.
I hope that a last-minute reading of the tea leaves may somehow convince Ron DeSantis his time and energy would be MUCH better spent in completing his term as Governor of Florida, and all this talk of running for President is deferred to January 2027. He does not need the literally TONS of trashing that would come from Team Trump should he choose to run anyway.
The election, at this point, is Trump’s to lose, and what the heck, stranger things have happened. Wake up, Amurrica! (attributed to Earl Pitts, remember him?)
Trump already leads RDS with 45 points in latest Rassmussen poll. That lead will probably increase when RDS announces, it he ever does.
why are you smarter than most posters? And I do not say that in a smart Alecky way. You seem to actually understand career politicians.
I’m talking about DeSantis in ‘28, not Trump.
We will see.
By running for President, DeSantis will be placing himself in the position of being on the side of the Republican wing of the Deep State. His record in office is far better than that of any Republican Presidential candidate since Reagan. (Trump never held public office before his 2016 run.) However, DeSantis will be seen as the Uniparty's tool, even if his conservatism is sincere.
Big whoop.
So, why don't YOU explain why, desantis, who
Has lied and continues to lie, about his intent to run for president, even back when he was running for re-election as governor.
Is deceitful and plays games with when he's announcing his intent to run for president, e.g. I'm not a candidate bobblehead desantis
Has started to fraudulently converting state campaign donations, to use in his presidential campaign, which is illegal per FEC.
And endorsed and supported by swampy GOPe rinos, most recently from Iowa GOP.
So, desantis supporters/nevertrumpers, explain why desantis, who does all these things, is who you want to be president?
And while you're at it, explain to us how we're suppose to know when he's telling the truth or not?
Remember when everyone and his brother in the political establishment kept repeating ad nauseam, “Trump has no pathway”? Well, DeSantis REALLY has no pathway, but I haven’t heard these geniuses say it even once.
100%
Absolutely nothing good will come of this. A complete waste of money and political capital.
He can if he loses. Would Trump run again in 2028 if he loses? He doing considerably worse with independents than he did in 2020.

Some here would want him to.
“You just wait! Ron will make his announcement and SHOOT to the very top position in the polls!!”
- Rod DeSanctus Dude
—-> Can we hope that Trump will be more respectful and polite after DeSantis announces?
Trump will quadruple his efforts. Can’t wait.
