If you want to see an example of the large societal change that has occurred in the USA over the past 60 years, compare the attitudes of Teamster President Jimmy Hoffa with today's barista having a meltdown over work.
Unlike a lot of union leaders today, Hoffa actually did put in a lot of hard physical WORK in his early years.
If he was still doing manual labor, I doubt he’d be so eager to work 7 days a week.
Never understood the coffee specialty shop thing......especially starbucks.
Personally I’d rather go to Wafflehouse.
Please tell me this is a joke.....surely nobody is that weak.
Fonzie: Cunningham, with that Howdy Doody face, you could only be so tough.
“At least he was able to get a job”
That he apparently can’t handle.
“There are so many customers”.......that kind of weakness really is sad.....I suspect he didn’t have much of a father figure growing up.
Next time you go to a restaurant and a gen z or millennial seats you ask for a different table right before you sit down.......I’ve done that a few times and they usually freeze up and don’t know what to do.
No thinking out of the box skills whatsoever.
Last time the little hostess actually told me “you can’t do that”. I let it go and sat where she told me to but when the manager got wind of it from my server he came over and apologized. When we left the hostess was no where to be seen.
Yeah, I am not defending him. Just pointing out that there are worse than him. I’ve seen them. It’s a pretty sad commentary.
First, the guy is a gal taking testosterone, hence the “beard.” And that is clear by the fact that she is crying, which women do but men don’t.
Second, she is “neurodivergent,” which means that things that are set up for the vast majority of people are not necessarily appropriate for her.
Third, yes, of course she should quit. Why is she not quitting?
Yeah I get it.
“It’s a pretty sad commentary”
Yep, this is the end result of participation trophies and weak or no father figures.
Although, to be fair, a Starbucks shift is probably much tougher than Hoffa’s day sitting at his desk having administrative staff perform routine work.
Can you imagine serving self-righteous leftist progressive elites all day long, requesting every combination of BS under the sun, complaining the whole time? I couldn’t do it with a smile on my face either.
In his defense if he’s working 25 hours during week and most weekends both days on his feet slinging over priced joe drinks and flaccid sandwiches and going to school on 15-21 hours of credits classes per semester then it is doing a lot
A whole lot
He should however not be weeping at his age unless his dog just died
Why would you do that just to mess with people? Seems strange to me.
I have maybe once in my life requested a different table in my many times eating out (have done a ton of business travel throughout my career). One time someone tried to put me at a table way too close to musical act that was just warming up, so I asked to be moved.
“He should however not be weeping at his age unless his dog just died”
I would love to see him in boot camp.
Would fit perfectly in today’s military. I think you mean the boot camps of old.
I’m not messing with anybody.....I just don’t like being seated next to bathrooms or depending on how the restaurant is set up, the kitchen.
This last time I referenced I got seated in the bar area, and just like the musical act you mentioned bar areas tend to be a bit noisy......I really didn’t want to sit in a bar on my birthday especially when the restaurant was half empty.
Contrary to popular belief I’m not a jackass......not ALL the time anyway. 😁
Understood. It almost read like you like to wait until right before you are seated and then ask for a change on a routine basis. :)
Nah, I try to not make a habit of it but if its a less than desirable area and other tables are available I’ll ask. My point was many times these young restaurant employees can’t even handle something as simple as a customer request for a different table. About a year ago we were gonna get seated at a table (again in a half empty restaurant) and I asked for a booth instead.....the little hostess actually had to go get the manager.......I could tell he couldn’t believe she had to get him for that.
I totally agree, they are told not to think and they do a good job of it!
“they are told not to think and they do a good job of it”
Yep you nailed it.......and it would funny, if it wasn’t so sad.
Keep in mind that many of these kids are self-described “social media influencers” who are trying to get hits on their pages.
