Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Small arms, ATGMs, MANPADS, loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles, trailers and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it is not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

"“The most significant aspect of the VKS performance over Ukraine that had been overlooked or at least not explicitly predicted by VKS experts before the invasion is the fact that Russian pilots and planning staff lack the ability to plan, organize, and execute composite air operations (COMAOs). COMAO is a NATO term used to describe missions where “dissimilar types of aircraft interact in coordinated actions, to achieve defined military objectives within a given time and geographical area…normally involving between 20–100 aircraft.”

… “Many of these limitations stem not from inherent Russian technological limitations, but from the fact that the Russian military as a whole has long relied on massed artillery, armored vehicles, and land-based precision fires for the core of its tactical and operational level battlefield lethality rather than CAS. Therefore, Russia has not invested heavily in the sort of sensors, weapons, and pilot training that Western air forces have taken for granted after decades of counter-insurgency campaigns where airpower provided the majority of deployed joint force firepower. Consequently, it should not have been a surprise for Western observers that the VKS proved poor at conducting dynamic CAS and interdiction on the battlefield in Ukraine.”"

Nice. Very Nice.

“’Presumably one of the first videos showing US-delivered 🇺🇸 guided bombs with JDAM-ER kits in action in Bakhmut, #Donetsk Oblast.

Four GBU-62 were dropped on what is claimed to be an ammo storage point and Russian military staging area.

"Now RuZZia is playing defense. Tanks are generally staying behind the front lines."

And you totally miss the brilliance of that...

Surovikin's idea of using the one crucial city as bait worked for Bakhmut and now, apparently, Russians have determined to use the entire region of Donbas as bait the same way.

There is simply no need for Russians to go out into the hinterlands to chase hohos.

The areas of the former ukrainian pseudo-state that Russia now controls is basically the entire pseudo-state's economy, i.e. 95% of the GDP of the place. THE HOHOS HAVE TO COME TO THEM. They can just sit there and shoot them with their 10-1 edge in artillery and their total control of the sky over the place when they do..... And the adage of an attacker needing a 3-1 edge in forces will apply in spades when that happens.

1/5 The Thermals can't decide the war for allies. The Leos 1/2 and Chally 2 are using an obsolete WBG-X thermal sight from first gen. It puts these tanks behind the RU 1PN96MT-02 used in their T-62. Yes, about thermals, the Leo 1-2/ Chally 2 are ironically inferior to the T62.

2/5 The western tanks have better lenses, able to do a magnification of 4x - 12x, but the poor resolution of WBG-X just make the zoom/magnification unable to recognize anything far using Thermals.

3/5 The upgrades only came for 2a6PL and in general for the EU 2a7. The RU T90 and T72B3/M are using sosna-u, a 2nd gen thermal sight, with lenses similar to western sights, but much better thermal resolution. RU can't manufacture the sosna-u massively yet. And about this, China can't help too much. What RU needs is more in NL and GER.

4/5 The old Polish and Ukraine warriors: The Old, but upgraded polish Pt-91 (using KLW-1 Asteria) and the Ukrainian T-64bv (using TPN-1-TPV) are the only 3rd gen Thermals on battlefield. These vehicles have less armor, but an advantage on Thermal sights, what help a lot.

5/5The RuAF have around 200-250 T90* and 400-600 T-72B3/B3M, both using Sosna-U. All other tanks are using inferior devices. Sending an inferior force not only in techs, but also in lower number, the western forces are dangerously underestimating the russians.

Note 1: The western forces were negligent about build/move facilities for ukrainian companies manufacture anti air missiles, T64*, Pt-91 barrels. Now after 2y, most of ukr-PL tanks have worn-out barrels and the country air defenses are going to run out missiles. For me a fail.

Note 2: Ukraine have companies able to manufacture barrels, S-300/Buk-M1-2 missiles. How nobody organized this production months ago? While the media was criticizing the RU logistics/structure, just forgot about the Nato fails. Now these two factors can cause a collapse.

Errata: I forgot to mention that the Challenger 2 uses the TOGS II, another first gen Thermals. For me the Chally os the most protected tank on battlefield, but the lack of upgraded optics can really be a limitation. Another factor is the lack of ERA on its NERA proction.

Recently the British just start an upgrade on challenger 2 including replace the old TOGS II, but it will take few years and end in 2027. The New Leo 2a7 have a 3rd gen of Thermals. The Cv90 also has a 3rd gen of Thermals while the Bradleys a 2nd gen.

Tom_Morgz@morgz_tom 4h
Sorry to be that guy, but Challenger 2 was upgraded to replace the TOGS 2 sensor with a Catherine MP sensor well clear of anything Russian now or ever…

Upshot of the comments by others is she may be quite wrong about the sights.

GBU-62 is a 2000# class munition.

All 4 JDAMs achieved secondary explosions.

40 of these GBU-62s costs the same as 1 RU ALCM.

Things definitely heating up in Kherson region on south bank of Dnipro river. Russia shot down a Ukrainian Su-25 providing air support to Ukrainian troops on the ground today.

“Surovikin’s idea of using the one crucial city as bait worked for Bakhmut”

Bakhmut was not Surovikin’s idea. The Russian assault on Bakhmut went on before, during and after Surovikin’s tenure in command.

The real signature strategies of his command were the cruise missile barrages on the Ukrainian civilian electrical grid, the Russian withdrawal from the West bank of the Dniper River, and the mobilization call up (Russia’s first since WWII).
