Attack On Europe: Documenting Russian Equipment Losses During The 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine

This list only includes destroyed vehicles and equipment of which photo or videographic evidence is available. Therefore, the amount of equipment destroyed is significantly higher than recorded here. Small arms, ATGMs, MANPADS, loitering munitions, drones used as unmanned bait, civilian vehicles, trailers and derelict equipment are not included in this list. All possible effort has gone into avoiding duplicate entries and discerning the status of equipment between captured or abandoned. Many of the entries listed as 'abandoned' will likely end up captured or destroyed. Similarly, some of the captured equipment might be destroyed if it can't be recovered. When the origin of a piece of equipment can't be established, it is not included in the list. The Soviet flag is used when the equipment in question was produced prior to 1991. This list is constantly updated as additional footage becomes available.

The Russian military, the second largest military in the world, may not be what it looks like. Lies and systematic corruptions may in fact have dragged Russia into this war with Ukraine, which has been heavily backed up by the US and NATO. We will present the evidence, you make your own decision, because the Russian Army, is not what you think.

Designed to support the U.S. Army Captains Career Course, “Understanding Combined Arms Warfare” defines and outlines the important aspects of modern combined arms operations. This is not a complete history of combined arms warfare. It is intended to highlight the most important aspects of the subject.

The beginning of the documentary establishes a common understanding of combined arms warfare by discussing doctrinal and equipment developments in World War I. The second part compares the development of French and German Army mechanization during the interwar period and describes how each country fared during the Battle of France in 1940. The film concludes by showing how the United States applied combined arms operations in the European Theater in World War II.

Russia has reacted angrily to an announcement from South Korea that it might join the long list of countries supplying heavy weaponry to Ukraine to help thwart the Kremlin’s invasion of that country.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol laid out the conditions under which Seoul would shift its current policy and deliver arms to Ukraine, in response to which Moscow threatened to send weapons systems to North Korea in a “quid pro quo” move.

“If there is a situation the international community cannot condone, such as any large-scale attack on civilians, massacre, or serious violation of the laws of war, it might be difficult for us to insist only on humanitarian or financial support,” Yoon said.

Other overnight developments in the conflict reported by Suspilne include two reported attacks on Kherson, the port city recaptured by Ukrainian forces last November. The latest attacks are said to have resulted in undisclosed damage. In the last 24 hours, the broadcaster reported, the Kherson community was subject to artillery bombardment 18 times, killing one person and injuring 10 more, with a market in the city center having been hit.

Elsewhere in the Kherson region, Ukrainian forces are said to have begun an assault on the Russian-occupied city of Nova Kakhovka, on the left bank of the River Dniepr. A Russian-installed official in the region, Rodion Miroshnik, stated on Telegram that Nova Kakhovka was under fire from Ukrainian forces.

“The whole city is under fire. There are already wounded,” he wrote, although these claims can’t currently be independently verified.

-—> What Could Happen If Ukraine’s Stock Of Soviet SAMs Runs Dry
Leaked documents from Pentagon suggest that time is running out to replace Ukraine’s Soviet-era surface-to-air missile systems.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/what-could-happen-if-ukraines-stocks-of-soviet-sams-runs-dry

Excerpts:
Assuming this part of the document dump is a legitimate assessment, there could be massive consequences for Ukraine, with Russia potentially regaining the opportunity to execute fixed-wing air combat operations deep into Ukrainian airspace.

This is in addition to targets in Ukraine becoming far more vulnerable to standoff missile and drones attacks. If anything else, it’s a reminder of just how precarious the delicate air power balance is between the two countries and how important it is to rearm Ukraine for a longer fight.

The key claim included in this document is that Pentagon officials have assessed that Ukrainian air defenses assigned to protect troops on the front line will “be completely reduced” by May 23.

Were that to happen, Russian air power would be much less constrained in how it operates over the forward edge of the battlefield, with potentially disastrous consequences for Ukrainian troops on the ground.

At the same time, by rolling back Ukrainian ground-based air defenses here, Russian aircraft would be better able to push further west into Ukraine, making it easier to target cities, and military installations - including airbases, as well as other key infrastructure, military and civilian - at least in some areas.

Eroded air defenses would allow Russia to be better able to overcome the limitations it now faces in terms of a dwindling supply of long-range standoff munitions. Not only are these generally expensive to produce but the strict sanctions now imposed on Russia make it much harder to replenish them.

If the Russian Aerospace Forces were given more freedom of action by depleted Ukrainian air defenses, they could also make increasing use of shorter-range weapons.

Ultimately, if the Pentagon’s **supposed** predictions about missile stocks were to come true, then the entire picture of the air war could begin to morph dramatically.

... the reality is that stocks of missiles for the S-300 are always going to be limited and, at some point, will be exhausted.

Unable to of provide additional Buk systems or the missiles made for them, the United States has approved the transfer of RIM-7 Sparrow missiles that will be integrated with the Ukrainian Buk systems. This is an innovative way of keeping the remaining Buk systems in the fight, but it’s unclear how long the process of adapting the Soviet-era Buk for these NATO-standard missiles might take or how effective it will end up being.

... the possibility that the missiles fired by Ukrainian S-300 and Buk systems could be exhausted, sooner rather than later, is highly troubling, but it’s also a fact that new, NATO-supplied ground-based air defense systems are still being delivered and the most capable of these have not yet been brought online. Once they are operational, they will likely have a significant impact on Russian air planning.

... it should be remembered that the bleak picture painted by the leaked Pentagon documents refers specifically to the S-300 and Buk - and as such concerns the upper-altitude blocks within a layered ground-based air defense system.

[ Counter Offensive Begun | First Russian Positions Taken | Its Official. Ukrainian Counter Offensive Begun ]

••Day 420: April 19

Today the biggest news comes from the south. Here, the intensity of Ukrainian attacks has reached new peaks as Ukrainians opened several more lines of attack. Due to the increased pressure, Russians started losing their positions, and the occupation authorities suddenly launched evacuation from the pre-frontal settlements.

The evacuation sparked panic about the beginning of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, and today Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defense finally confirmed that the counteroffensive has started.

Last time I told you that in the aftermath of reconnaissance-in-force operations, Ukrainians significantly reduced the grey zone area, got very close to Nesterianka, and started destroying Russian defense infrastructure in the village. I also told you that Ukrainians started slowly increasing the area of operation and activating along the whole front line.

The freshest reports suggest that Ukrainians breached the Russian defense in the trenches in front of Novodanylivka and got closer to Nesterianka and Kopani from the east.

Ukrainian presence was also noted in the southern part of Kamianske, which means that Russians highly likely abandoned Piatykhatky as well. As the front moved south, Ukrainians started preparing for an attack on the next Russian trenches on the line.

Getting closer also allowed Ukrainians to expose Russian mortar crews that previously operated in the back and promptly destroy them. In some places, Ukrainian drone operators managed to identify and destroy Russian tanks that were used to reinforce defensive positions.

Ukrainian Head of Melitopol reported that Russians announced an urgent evacuation from all settlements between Vasylivka and Tokmak, in fear that this may very soon become the most active battleground. In order to prevent the accumulation of a critical amount of heavy equipment in the region, Russian forces started to actively use guided air bombs.

These bombs weigh from 500 to 1500 kilograms and have a range of up to 40 kilometers, which poses a significant threat to Ukrainian plans.

Ukrainians are responding to these problems by creating fake warehouses and also by reinforcing the region with air defense. However, in the meantime, Ukrainians are trying to reciprocate the damage and are also identifying and destroying Russian warehouses with ammunition and equipment.

It looks like the same action is going to take place very soon in the Orikhiv direction because Russian reconnaissance recently reported that Ukrainians are actively demining significant clusters of land. Another indicator of the imminent Ukrainian offensive actions here is the fact that certain elements of the 71st Jager Brigade and 46th Assault Brigade recently arrived at Orikhiv, according Russian sources.

But while the soldiers around Orikhiv are just preparing to launch an assault, the famous Ukrainian 72nd Mechanized Brigade conducted a series of assaults in the vicinity of Vuhledar. Previously, I told you that Ukrainians counterattacked Russians from the north, undermined Russian defense in the eastern hamlet, and then cleared it.

Recent reports suggest that now they mostly focused on the south and attacked Russian positions in the remaining tree lines in front the town, and, most importantly, they attacked the northern part Pavlivka.

The intensification of fighting along the whole southern line has been noted by many analysts, but today, the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defense finally confirmed that the counteroffensive operation has started. She stated that it is incorrect to wait for a specific date because counteroffensive is a long process and it is only the culmination that happens quickly, but no one can predict when the culmination will happen as it depends on the conditions on the ground.

Right now, Ukrainians are testing Russian defenses, letting the newly formed assault units gain combat experience and, for the most part, follow the path of lowest resistance - meaning they push where they can, leaving the strongest positions for later. Russian analysts are predicting that Ukrainians will make at least two huge attacks during the last week of April to test new tactics and then launch a full-scale counteroffensive during the first half of May.

“Europe’s Air-Traffic Agency Under Attack From Pro-Russian Hackers”

“Air traffic isn’t at risk but the attack is ongoing, Eurocontrol said, amid fears about the safety of Europe’s critical infrastructure”

“Europe’s air-traffic control agency said Thursday that it was under attack from pro-Russian hackers amid fears that Moscow could interfere with the region’s critical
infrastructure as its confrontation with the West escalates.

The cyberattack on the agency’s website started on April 19, a spokeswoman for the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, also known as Eurocontrol, said, adding that it wasn’t affecting the agency’s air-traffic control activities.

“Since 19 April, the Eurocontrol website has been under attack by pro-Russian hackers. The attack is causing interruptions to the website and web availability,” the spokeswoman said. “There has been no impact on European aviation.””

“moving closer to an outright ban on most exports to Russia”

I think that sanctions are planned to continuously ratchet tighter, in conjunction with continuous attrition of the Russian conventional weapons arsenal - until the point where they are only able to replenish losses from new production, and there is a total ban on trade (with perhaps some selected essential exemptions).

“today Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defense finally confirmed that the counteroffensive has started.”

The Operational Plan may have begun executing (seems that it has, with the suppression of enemy electronic warfare systems, and probing of the front lines), but the D-Day main assault phase may not take place for some time, until the other earlier phases of the plan have achieved their effects and set the conditions.

Any time is possible from here on out, but I think at least another week for soil to dry out. I have no idea where they stand on equipment and training readiness, or enemy (Russian) forces’ status. Might be another month.

I doubt that we will miss it though, when it does go full out.
