I'm proud of his decision. This is Donald Trump's year to shine.

He wants to be as far away from the coming disaster as he can.

I’d like to announce I’m not running for president in 2024 either and I have about the same chance as Pompeo.

He wasn’t going to win and had gotten whatever book sales possible during this election cycle. Why waste more effort.

He had no traction. Might be different if he runs as VP with Trump in 2024, in the 2028 election cycle after Trump.

Good for him.

He was a good SoS.

A source told NBC News that the decision is partly due to money concerns as well as “lane” issues:

“Money is definitely an issue, and it seems like his announcement window passed,” the person said. “And what’s his lane? Foreign policy — but Nikki Haley has had a great rollout and is already harnessing that lane and has the donors lined up.”

Typical political consultant with a tone deaf response about Nikki Haley having a great rollout. Her campaign was and is dead on arrival.

He’s smart in so many ways, and this is further proof he is wise to wait, and let Trump finish his job.

He dipped his toe in with leftist talking points against his former boss and greatest president evah Trump.

Can’t take that back Mike.

You looked so good on the world stage representing America until a hooker on nickle day told you to “Go for it!”.

Next thing out of your mouth apparently was, “Was that wrong, should I not have done that?”

This guy?

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Sunday it was time for the nation to move past celebrity candidates for president in remarks that seemed squarely aimed at former President Donald Trump.

While not referring to Trump by name, Pompeo said on “Fox News Sunday”: “The moment for celebrity, the moment for stars, is not with us. It’s the moment for America to go back to its conservative founding.”

No matter Pompeo’s merits, he offered no credible case for why he should be President and lacked a galvanizing message. His best approach would have been to establish himself as a more polished version of Trump and the preferred alternative for Trump loyalists if Trump's legal woes knock him from the race.

Other than back of the hand references by Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro without further explanation, I know of no substantive reason why Pompeo does not qualify for the office.

The man is spectacularly brilliant, first in his class from West Point, Congressman, Dir. of the CIA, Secretary of State. Seems to never have put a foot down wrong either in office or in public interview.

As far as I know, and I am ready to be educated to the contrary, he is a solid Trump conservative although not necessarily a butt boy for Trump.

now that Mike has abdicated, i find this an opportune time to announce that i, catnipman, am hereby announcing that i am NOT running for President ... i repeat, catnipman is NOT running for President ... this announcement has been released to all the major media outlets in the form a formal letter, so no doubt FReepers everywhere will soon be reading about this in the media, but remember that you heard it here first ...

That’s exactly the thing. I can’t think of anyone who has a chance against Trump next time around.

If DeSantis minds his Ps and Qs, remains as FL governor, and makes great things happen there, then 2028 could work for him.

Pommpeo would have a rough time in any election for POTUS. Maybe be elected as Senator or Governor first as stepping stones, then he could have a chance.

I think Sarah Huckabee might be #1 on a POTUS ticket in 2028 or later. I’d be cool with that, but only if she takes the opportunity to start prosecuting some Clinton crimes in AR not covered by Statute Of Limitations. Murder murder murder...

Neither her father nor Asa Hutchison had the balls or the courage to touch that. She needs to do it! If she did, she’d be shoo-in for POTUS. (PDJT should have locked up PIAPS as he almost promised.)

As bright and capable as Pompeo is, he lacks the political touch of being able to connect with people, especially with strangers on the campaign trail. More broadly, obviously smart and clever people like Pompeo may be admired as public figures but are rarely loved because they lack endearing qualities and are tainted to a degree by being well-polished political insiders.

Trump has endearing qualities in his absurd comb-over, orange tint makeup, and near childish vanity and egotism. He is easy to read, and a large slice of the public sees him as genuinely dedicated to the country's best interests and trustworthy because he comes from outside the political system. That is why Trump's standing in the polls rose after his indictment.

If I understand the views of Bannon and Navarro correctly, on many issues Pompeo dragged his feet until he got direct orders from Trump. From that perspective, Pompeo as Secretary of State was an establishment type who was loyal to Trump but not a full believer in his program. In office as President, Pompeo would be an establishment type as President, not an ax wielding reformer like Trump.

“he is wise to wait, and let Trump finish his job.”

Right. Do the job he was elected for in 2020. The loss of continuity, plus four years of the Biden travesty, will be a problem but he’ll pull it off — assuming we ever have a fair election again.
