On this date in 1985, 96 Iraqis were executed for an assassination attempt on Saddam Hussein. Though not the only or the largest atrocity of that dictator, it was the crime that would do to hang him under the U.S. occupation.
Two years deep into the horrific Iran-Iraq War, Hussein paid a ceremonial visit to theShi’ite town of Dujail north of Baghdad and was greeted by an armed ambuscade — up to a dozen gunmen springing from the cover of date palms to fire at the president’s motorcade. They missed.*
The ensuing vengeance was visited so widely as to earn the sobriquet Dujail Massacre: something like 1% of the 75,000-strong town wound up in the hands of the torturers, with 148 death sentences handed down and approved by the president — and they were none too exacting about direct complicity in the assassination, freely sweeping up regime opponents and sympathizers with the outlawed Dawa Party.....

They should have known better.
The U.S. invaded Iraq because the dictator “W” Bush told them to invade Iraq. Why? Revenge on Saddam’s assassination attempt on Bush Sr. 10 years earlier. Talk about corruption.
The U.S. had NO BUSNIESS invading Iraq under “W” Bush. So many American deaths on the altar of Bush’s stupidity and stubbornness.
When you attempt to kill the king, you must succeed!
Better to kill Islamists in Iraq than watch malls and schools in the US get blown up.
It was well known that Saddam was not an Islamic Jihadist and that is NOT the reason W did what he did. What W did was despicable.

Oh, how the worm doth turn. Back in 2004 when you first joined FR you were of a different mindset. In fact, you posted a thread praising Bush and asking to sign a petition in support of him!
In case you forgot, here is your thread:

The Radical Left – led by MoveOn.org, Michael Moore and others – are continuing the outrageous attacks on President Bush. In fact, many are starting to beat the drum for impeachment! Meanwhile, the mainstream media is already proclaiming President Bush a “lame duck.” We expect a full assault on this Presidency in the coming weeks. But these attacks aren’t just about defeating our President. These radical attacks are damaging to our brave fighting forces and in a real way put our troops who are fighting for our freedoms at even greater risk. Immediate Action: SIGN OUR SUPPORT THE COMMANDER IN...”
Did you forget, Jim?
Let’s see. It seems to me I was not alone in my praise and support of W. But I also know I was not alone in becoming less and less enamored by him to the point where many others and I really don’t like the guy much at all, at least politically.
The explanation for that process with me and others may be a combination of sharpening discernment of good and evil along with the slow revelation that W is a socialist becoming friends with his Leftist persecutors and who thinks Obama is the cat’s meow.
What about you since we’re talking about changed minds? Have you ever changed your mind? (”Changed Mind” = “Metanoia” = “Repentance”) If not, that does not bode well for you.
Yeah, I supported Bush...until I didn’t. I changed my mind, and I have no problem admitting it.
I changed my mind because it became clear that the raison de guerre was a lie. It had nothing to do with Bush being a “socialist,” (which he isn’t, though he is not the conservative he claimed to be). I doubt a socialist would have put Samuel Alito on the SCOTUS (Roberts is another story, though he sided with the majority on Heller and McDonald). And I also opposed his border policy, which was no policy at all, and was a tacit invitation for Mexico and Central America to invade us.
Glad to see you admit you were hoodwinked, as well.
I thought the saying goes:
When you come for the King, you ought not to miss
Or something more eloquent than that...
Damn man... going 18 years back in someone’s posting history? That’s cold.
“That’s cold.”
Not really.
I just went back to the threads he created, not his entire posting history.
