When you strike at the king, you must kill him

The quote above comes from Ralph Waldo Emerson but there are variations on the theme. The character Omar Little in "The Wire" put it a little differently:

When you come at the king, you best not miss.

In the Truth Social post, Donald Trump says he's learned he is to be arrested on Tuesday by the galactically stupid Alvin Bragg, Manhattan DA.

Donald Trump's Truth Social post.

When Bragg took office he made clear that a good number of crimes were not going to be prosecuted

Among the crimes Bragg said his office would not prosecute: marijuana misdemeanors, including selling more than three ounces; not paying public transportation fare; trespassing except a fourth degree stalking charge, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration in certain cases, and prostitution.
He admitted that cops won't bother arresting anyone committing these crimes. That way Bragg can claim that crime is down. See how that works?

Bragg routinely sets murderers loose but he and his office have an perverted obsession with Trump and have for a long time. It appears he's going to take a chance on killing the king. About that- paying hush money is not illegal despite liberal rants to the contrary. Bragg is going to go after Trump for something else:

Prosecutors are weighing whether to charge Trump with falsifying the business records of the Trump Organization for how it reflected the reimbursement of the payment to Cohen, who said he advanced the money to Daniels.
Going through the spectacle of a trial for a misdemeanor seems asinine but Bragg is not likely to stop there. He will most likely seek to try to elevate the charges to a felony:

The same “swing states” that stopped counting in the middle of the night with Trump way ahead only to “magically” flip to Biden once counting was re-started.

I can’t be alone in the belief that they’ll try a final solution

Arresting him would indeed propel him to the presidency again. For that reason, I fear that final solution may come much, much sooner. I hope Trump is right with God.

Please do! Arrest in a predawn raid with CNN, PMSNBC and CNBC present. Let this play out like a broken record it is. Perp walk the Trumpster like a parade for all to see how low the government operators have stooped. It will awaken the soul of this country. They say the people cannot win against nukes. They taunt us daily. Must I remind everybody we spent 20 years in Afghanistan and it was lost in a week. We spent 20 years in Vietnam and it was lost in a week. Any questions? They are just being hopeful we will remain silent.

https://recordinglaw.com/can-a-convicted-felon-run-for-president/

....According to these rules, since Donald Trump was a single-term president, he is eligible to run for President for one more term. Even if he were to become incarcerated, the constitution spells out that it is entirely legal to be a felon running for office. The reason for this is that giving someone a felony record could be used as a political tool to prevent someone from taking office, that is why a clean record is not required to run for president....

NY Judge NY Court NY jury. If this goes the whole way Trump will be a convicted felon and the swing states can and will keep him off the ballot.

You continue to repeat this from other threads where you were told that the Constitution determines eligibility for anyone seeking POTUS. The States have no say. Why would you continue to post this nonsense?

That is EXACTLY why this charade is taking place.

Except that the notion is BS. Show me in the Constitution where any State has this kind of power over the election of POTUS.

Not alone at all.

That is practically a guaranteed result.

They will not be taken from power by anything except the same.

Cohen, who said he advanced the money to Daniels.

And Cohen was charged for what.

“Except that the notion is BS. Show me in the Constitution where any State has this kind of power over the election of POTUS.”

That’s EXACTLY why I called it a charade. The intent is to so discredit Trump as a convicted felon as to basically disqualify him; or, in the alternative, tie him up in court. Some states could very well use their own election rules to try to keep him off the ballot (a long shot, but if it is tied up in court it could its purpose).

The states could argue they had the power to restrict him from the ballot pursuant to the 10th Amendment. Again, a long shot.

But, here would be their argument:

The individual states control elections within their respective states. Each state is different. In order to get on the ballot, a candidate for president of the United States must meet a variety of state-specific filing requirements and deadlines. These regulations, known as ballot access laws, determine whether a candidate or party will appear on an election ballot. These laws are set at the state level. A presidential candidate must prepare to meet ballot access requirements in advance of primaries, caucuses, and the general election.

The respective states control their respective election processes. They can keep a convicted felon off the ballot if their process allows for it.

https://www.usnews.com/news/politics/articles/2023-01-19/state-laws-vary-widely-on-whether-felons-can-run-for-office

It specifically states that, “Some states don’t allow those with felony convictions to run for office, while others impose various restrictions.”

Be sure to click on the link for the 50-state database.

A counter-argument would be that those restrictions only affect candidates for state and local office, but not federal. And I’m sure Trump would make that argument, as would I. Which goes back to my earlier comment that it is the death-by-process that the anti-Trumpers are after.

ArtII.S1.C5.1 Qualifications for the Presidency

Article II, Section 1, Clause 5:

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

The Qualifications Clause set forth in Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 requires the President to be a natural-born citizen, at least thirty-five years of age, and a resident of the United States for at least fourteen years.

The individual States have no say. Only a Constitutional Amd. can change these requirements. A natural born citizen, at least 35 years of age with 14 years of residence, can commit murder, be tried and convicted, serve their time, leave prison and file to run for POTUS the very next day (arguably they could file while incarcerated) and there is no action a State can take to prevent it.

The federal Congress/Senate can of course file impeachment the day POTUS seats, even for nothing more than POTUS has poor character.

If you recall the banter in 2016 of some officials calling for Trump to be removed from ballots. Nothing happened for a reason. Remember the 'pussy tapes'? This is the same noise they will be screaming next week to no avail.

Oh, but they do. They have every right to bring an action in federal court; prevailing, obviously, is questionable.

States and individuals bring federal actions all the time. And, sometimes, federal courts all the way up to and including SCOTUS get it wrong! (Plessey v. Ferguson; Roe v. Wade; etc.) And, don’t forget Obama’s election to the presidency. Was he a natural born citizen? There is a strong argument that he was NOT. Here is an essay on the matter:

https://www.thepostemail.com/2009/10/18/4-supreme-court-cases-define-natural-born-citizen/

I’m just pointing out that SCOTUS has taken contradictory positions, and that your comment that states have NO say in the definition of “natural born citizen” is simply wrong.
Because a state’s definition of NBC might prove persuasive to SCOTUS, or maybe not. But to outright conclude that states have no say on the matter is pretty totalitarian of you.

I wonder if someone needs to start making “trusted protester licenses”, with picture on them. Then when police or federal agents, and Antifa show up to the protest without their TPIDs, then a team of photographers gang up on them and take lots of pictures.

And, of course, record them provoking the crowd and especially if they commit any criminal acts.
