First off, DeSantis may not have a snowball’s chance in hell of beating Trump, but that’s only if Trump doesn’t fight in the way that we’ve grown accustomed to. If he decided to play it like an old school establishment Republican, not campaign aggressively, and roll over, he might very well lose to DeSantis.
Trump is hitting DeSantis early and hard because he knows the sooner he can be eliminated, the sooner the party can heal and unite for the 2024 general election. Trump understands that the Establishment are backing DeSantis and that DeSantis is almost certainly going to run. But by waiting to announce, DeSantis wants it both ways. He wants to raise money, visit Iowa, have book tours - essentially campaigning - while trying to avoid incoming fire from Trump because he hasn’t officially announced. Trump is having none of it.

However, if Trump is not backing this torpedoing effort, he should say so - LOUDLY.
Not THIS Floridian! NOR any I personally know. Governor DeSantis is the best Florida Governor of my lifetime, ranking up there with charlie crist WHEN he was known as “chain gang charlie” and he supported republican efforts to thwart criminals and set the taxpayers free. Boy oh boy, WHAT happened to him? But I digress...DeSantis abandoning Florida right after a massive win WILL leave a bad taste in the mouths of more Floridians than the anti-Trumpers seem to fathom and the age of voting for a bad candidate because “they aren’t so and so” has long since past so if DeSantis want a majority vote of the REAL conservative Florida voters, he’d best keep Florida first and run another time for prez. Of course the neverTrumpers will attempt to convince us otherwise but in the Real World, DeSantis won’t get Florida conservative voters in a majority IF he screws us. That IS a simple fact.

I disagree with that. I know none that feel that way.
Most I know say they will hate to see him go but wish him the best if he decides to run for POTUS....myself included.
The only exceptions are of course the libs in the state that want to see every conservative/republican on the plant destroyed anyway.
I have tried to forget how Trump and his lawyers gamed the bankruptcy laws over the decades to gain an advantage here and there.
These shenanigans remind me why I was cautiously pessimistic about Trump’s ability to steer an ethical course.
Yes, I voted for Trump twice and am still thankful that he ended the Clinton and Bush dynasties.
A lot of people have been attacking Trump in the name of DeSantis and DeSantis doesn't feel any need to distance himself from that.

“They said” Trump was running for president a year before he announced. After all, he was traveling the country giving speeches at big rallies; and he was teasing a big future announcement.
By your standard, Trump was a CROOK for not announcing earlier than he did.
I don't think you have really thought through your reasoning, otherwise you would not write things that repudiate Trump.
