Trump lashes out at DeSantis, says he regrets his endorsement of him

Former President Donald Trump is intensifying his attacks on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, calling him disloyal and saying that his political career would have been over had he not endorsed his ultimately successful 2018 campaign.

“He was dead as a dog, he was a dead politician. He would have been working perhaps for a law firm or doing something else,” Trump told a small group of reporters aboard his plane on Monday afternoon en route to Iowa, where he was to make an appearance that evening.

Trump spent nearly ten minutes going after DeSantis, who is widely viewed as his most formidable challenger for the Republican nomination. The Florida governor, who is expected to launch his campaign following the end of the state’s legislative session in May, has been embarking on a swing of early primary states to promote his newly released memoir — including in Iowa, where he appeared on Friday.

He’s starting to remind me of the Trump baby.

I’m glad you posted that.

DeSantos supporters are making it easy for me to never support DeSantos.

Mitt was so nice too (also wanted entitlement reform). McCain said there was nothing to be afraid of with Obama. Get a grip.

I agree...and have been saying it for weeks. The 2022 elections told the story.

Trump has lost my vote. Children belong in school, not the capitol.

If Trump continued doing things like going to the derailment in Ohio and overshadowing the current President who could not be bothered to go, pointing out how things have deteriorated since Biden took office and comparing / contrasting how things were during his own administration, etc. then all other potential rivals in the primary would be completely overshadowed and no one would even be paying attention to the fact a primary technically has to take place. He’s going to be the dominant candidate being the most recent incumbent President anyway - he’s only putting chinks in his own armor getting into petty bickering like this, promoting old DNC “Mediscare” talking points, etc.

DeSantis is not disloyal - Trump is not the incumbent. If DeSantis challenged him in the 2020 primary - that would have indeed been disloyalty. The only reason DeSantis has an opening is because of this behavior. Trump is a fighter - fighting for and about the right things would be far more effective use of his time instead of looking like he has a very thin skin.

Trump should seriously consider running third party. I hope that he does. It would represent an incredible opportunity for our country and allow him to craft his own political agenda tailored to attract the red-pilled from both sides of the political divide.

He could pick a VP that is democrat friendly. The number one issue would be ending the war in Ukraine and of course leaving Social Security and Medicare untouched. He’d be free to pick and choose issues that will trip up both uniparty candidates.

****************

Trump won’t need to run as a third party, he’s already laying out common sense, realistic, and pragmatic positions in the Republican Primary.

His opponents will have to attack him from the left or the right.

Neither of those positions are a winner for a Republican candidate in the General Election.(Nor will they be winning issues to defeat Trump in the Primary)

At this point the best thing for Desantis to do is not to hit back at Trump, but to laugh at him. Trump is making a royal ass of himself.

The best solution is to mock him. Don’t hit back. Mock him. Make a joke about his tantrums. Trump cannot STAND to be mocked and might just implode right on the stage.

And the likes of you think he’s the problem.

He's not "the problem" - quit trying to conflate completely different subjects and points. Can you actually respond to what is being talked about?

Nah, DeSantis needs to keep his powder dry and continue to ignore Trump. By not acknowledging Trump’s insults Trump will grow more and more angry until he lets go on Casey DeSantis. He attacked Heidi Cruz and given time he’ll punch down on Casey DeSantis. Then DeSantis can justifiably nuke Trump. Trump will come off as a petty bully and DeSantis will come off as a disciplined defender of the innocent.
