Video creators that have been uploading to YouTube are very familiar with the over-the-top censorship at that site that has been going on for years. However, it is interesting to get the perspective of someone who has discovered this YouTube censorship perhaps for the first time. Even more interesting is that Helen Lewis of the Atlantic magazine can hardly be considered a conservative with a political axe to grind.
So let us now go on a voyage of censorship discovery with Lewis in her Friday piece, "What You Can’t Say on YouTube."

I made the mistake of joining ‘reddit’ last week, to watch a video someone sent... It had a text of two opposing political groups- One was called something endearing and nice, the other was called the ‘not-see’s’
I replied that apparently a ‘not-see’ is ‘some one who disagrees with liberals’, quoting what was in the actual video itself.
It was rejected and I was banned for life for ‘promoting hate’- I am wondering if that is a new record of some sort.

I did not realize Reddit was that bad. I had heard stories of subreddits with conservatives being a problem, but nothing like an instant, permanent, “ZAP!”
Yeah, Reddit has been terrible for years (2016 at least) and if you post anything not far left on the more mainline larger subreddits, that is exactly what will happen. If you want more detail on that sort of thing, just browse the r/ShitPoliticsSays subreddit.
I joined a forum about retirement help. It also had other things of interest. I posted a review of Star Trek Picard in their tv & movies and was emailed that I violated the ‘rules’ and this was my 2nd strike. One more and I would be banned.... I remember the 1st strike was commenting on the democrats wrecking the economy.
Liberals are worse then Klingons and Romulons.

Posting on Reddit without getting banned is a true art form.
I have survived for a long time with my bag of “tricks”.
I use a form of argument that is sort of like a circle.
No individual point is all that controversial—and I always have “mainstream” Mockingbird Media links (including Wikipedia) that support each individual point.
It is only when you take all the points together you get the “heresy”—and as long as you don’t attempt to editorialize but rather let the facts and links speak for themselves you are good to go.
At some point a lefty will say: “Are you saying X” where X is the heresy.
I don’t respond—so there is no issue.
They might as well just say “Don’t post any politics to the right of Bernie Sanders” but that would give away the game. Consistent and clear rules would get in the way of their selective enforcement and modding.
It’s not just politics... I joined reddit when I got my Surface Duo, as it was the only online forum I could find for it (Reddit has long been home to Windows Phone enthusiasts, although I had never joined before).
I then discovered the /tennis and /grammar subs — and the utter puritanism of the mods: you can’t even make a joke about grammar, much less correct any of the mods’ rather incorrect grammatical interpretations. They’re just a bunch of silly, little Czars, so I can imagine that the political content is far, far worse.
It’s everything the left says conservatives are: intolerant, ignorant, and humorless.
Yeah, politics is just the tip of the iceberg. If you really want to be disturbed, look into the lives (or lack thereof) of the powermods on Reddit. Most of those are outright groomers.
I’m familiar with being banned on reddit for expressing a conservative opinion. Not banned from reddit itself, but banned from subreddits simply for participating in a conservative reddit.
I wasn’t even that active in such politically conservative reddit groups. I’d be a member for a lot of months before posting a single comment only a couple sentences long and BAM, within minutes I’d receive a notice from one of the non political reddits I subscribed to that I was either banned or warned I was suspended from participating until I unsubscribed myself from the political reddit.
One such subreddit called offmychest did that to me, among many others. They told me I wasn’t kicked out. But I was suspended. In order to lift their suspension, I had to unsubscribe from the offending politically conservative group. People got fed up with such treatment that they went and created their own new subreddit called trueoffmychest. After getting the warning from offmychest, instead of going along with their dictate, I wrote then a message telling them to get lost and unsubscribed from offmychest altogether.
Here are a couple of messages I received. The one from offmychest is 6 years old. The other one is only 5 months old:

Church Of COVID I presume? And yeah, they are actually prohibited from banning people due to being in another subreddit, but the admins don’t care if you have the “correct” politics.
I left out the best part- I joined, read ONE post, commented, and was permanently banned after my first ever reply.
I am wondering if that’s a record of some sort.
Joined and banned in less than one minute.
Probably not, since it was almost certainly a bot doing the banning.
