Since 2002, the IL GOP has been politically irrelevant – and virtually everything they touch, dies.
In 2004, the IL GOP recruited Maryland resident Alan Keyes to run against then IL state senator Barack Obama for US Senate.
Keyes would lose the race to Obama by 43 points, 70-27. In 2014, IL GOP-establishment candidate Bruce Rauner, a wealthy private equity executive, would defeat Gov. Pat Quinn, D, 50-46, but in 2018, billionaire JB Pritzker, heir to the Hyatt Hotel fortune, would defeat Rauner’s re-election hopes by a significant margin, 54-38.
And in 2022, the IL GOP recruited Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin to run for governor in the primary, despite Irvin pulling Democratic Primary ballots in 2014, 2016 and 2020, and spending the last several years praising Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker – referring to him as a “great friend and a great leader.”

...and the thing is that I like the job he’s doing in Florida - but to show he’s serious, he really needs to get some distance from these MAGA-haters.
It is a damn shame that Alan Keyes did not win that Senate seat!
Minor point- the 2004 GOP Senate candidacy of Ambassador Keyes, is a brilliant, accomplished and principled man (the most conservative candidate in the 1996 GOP presidential primary- was my first election and while I voted for Buchanan supported Amb Keyes)- he waded into the fray after the GOPe’s preferred candidate, leading in the polls at the times, Jack Ryan (whose ex wife was Gerri Ryan, 7of9 in one of the Star Trek spinoffs) was driven out when partisan lawfare unsealed divorce records which included allegations of sex clubs and “swapping” with his then wife (shocking, I know, for Hollywood types). All of the odds seemed to mysteriously favor the Manchurian candidate, then as now. No one else would come in and take the proverbial hit, which was a failure of the Illinois Republican Party, so Ambassador Keyes lost in a landslide. He is a good man, IMO, and shouldn’t be disparaged in this oblique manner in the article.
I’m trying my best to avoid this squabble, but DeSantis has attracted some real misfits.
In spite of having no money or campaign organization or party support, he still managed to get more votes than Judy Barr Topinka did when she ran for governor in 2006, and won a handful of counties. I am proud to have voted for him, under the circumstances.
If the corrupt and inept Illinois Republicans hadn’t pulled their support from Sen. Peter Fitzgerald, a lot of things could have been different.
The rotten Illinois GOP are going to come for Mary Miller in 2024. She is a solid Conservative here in Illinois in the 15th district. She’s a fighter like Bobert and MTG.
If these crooks are lining up behind Desantis, that is worrisome.
No Republican who really wants the presidrncy can be a MAGA candidate. Therefore, the challengers will likely join the RINOS who must be beaten to save America. To get support, one must take financial support from RINOS, e.g. corporatists, Globalists war Hawks etc like DeSantis is doing,

Won’t do any good. Trump will be the nominee twice over the closest competitor.
