The New Orleans Saints and Derek Carr have agreed to a four-year, $150 million contract that includes $100 million in total guarantees, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported on Monday morning, per sources informed of the situation.

The team has since announced the news.

Carr will get $70 million effectively fully guaranteed with $60 million due at signing and another $10 million in Year 3 vesting after Year 1, per Rapoport and Garafolo. Carr's new contract also will include a no-trade clause, Garafolo reported, just as his most recent deal with the Raiders had.

"We are excited to welcome Derek Carr to the New Orleans Saints," said Saints general manager Mickey Loomis in a statement. "Derek's experience, leadership and skillset will be an asset to our offense."

Carr visited with the Saints before eventually being released by the Las Vegas Raiders on Feb. 14. The veteran QB had another meeting with the New Orleans brass in Indianapolis last week and also met with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers during the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine.

Hopefully the Saints have found their solution to getting back to the division winners they were under Brees.

Keeping it only four years is a good move for the Saints and not a too bad of a deal for Carr. He is being paid right at or just below market rate.

I’m thinking Winston could be a good backup in Detroit.

Not worth it. Not good enough to compete in a division with zMahomes, Wilson, and the Chargers guy. Smart move on his part. QB’s that take that much from the rest of the team end up losing.

Wow, they are stupid. If they are going to pay that much, why can’t they get a decent QB. They’d be bette off with Phillip Rivers.

Wow, Dennis Allen is a glutton for punishment. Derek Carr will once again be QB for Dennis Allen losing his job. (Carr was injured last time. The Saints don’t play Miami this year.

NFL teams are hamstringing themselves by signing NFL QBs to these massive deals before they’ve won anything. The exception is Mahomes because he’s lights out, but now also has 2 rings. Other teams signing aging Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers, or guys like Kyler Murray, Derek Carr, Kirk Cousins, Deshaun Watson, Geno Smith, etc are killing their ability to sign quality pieces around them because of the salary cap. Eagles, Bengals, Chargers have 1 or 2 more years before they join that club and have to give massive raises to their QBs.
