In a brief order, the court called for the parties involved to file “supplemental letter briefs” addressing the Supreme Court’s jurisdiction over the case, given that the North Carolina Supreme Court has agreed to rehear the redistricting dispute at its center.

Historically and Constitutionally, Courts have given State legislatures the right to determine districts in their state. Even obviously gerrymandered states are normally given the green-light. The fact that the NC Supreme Court decided that the Courts has the right to over-rule the decision of the NC legislature, was a shock to many. The maps drawn were not really that much out of the ordinary, and democrat controlled states have drawn much worse.

The NC Supreme Court made several decisions over the past few years which took away the legislature's equal power and invested it in themselves as they decided they were the final authority over the State's decision. They did not decide matters based upon law, but based upon their political leanings. I believe the voters have corrected matters by voted out the more liberal judges and electing Republicans to fill the seats up for election last fall.

This article is pretty much factual as to the basics of the case, with little opinion thrown in--much like every other conservative site. Meanwhile, corporate media site articles can be posted when they contain opinion and very few actual facts).
