#KarenCarpenter Karen Carpenter’s birthday today. The most beautiful singing voice of all time. Born 2 March 1950 died 4 February 1983 age 32. Got her music to remember how great she was as a singer. R.I.P. Karen Carpenter.

I saw Heart when they were on tour in 1976, at Day on the Green with the Eagles who were still touring ‘Hotel California. I had only heard ‘Magic Man’ at that time and they announced ‘Barricuda’ as their new single and proceeded to ‘kill it.’... It was a novelty at that time to have a female lead guitarist. I remember having the impression that they stepped out of one of Jethro Tull’s ‘Olde England’ albums, they were all dressed up like creatures out of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream.’

When I was in high school, no guy would publicly admit to liking The Carpenters but secretly we all did. Other than for appearance’s sake, no one would complain when one of the girlfriends would shove a Carpenters eight-track into the player. (Dating myself there.) I really don’t know how anyone can NOT like Karen Carpenter’s voice. As a pure vocalist, she might be the best of the era.

That’s exactly the way it was. It wasn’t ‘cool’ to like the Carpenters and practically everyone did.

Saw she and Richard at Hampton Rhodes Coliseum years ago. I wonder what beautiful songs we missed because of her unfortunate illness. One of my favorites forever.

As good as she was, though, Karen comes in a deep second to Ann Wilson of Heart, greatest female rock singer ever. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry, but that would be Janis.

I still remember swooning over that Little Queen album cover as a teenager.

For me, it’s a toss-up between (They Long to Be) Close to You and Superstar.

I saw the Carpenters live at Merriwether Post Pavilion in Maryland in the summer of 1972. It was a terrific show. Hard to believe that was more than 50 years ago - or that Karen was just 22 at the time.

What a hard choice. I think I come down on the side of “Yesterday Once More” sha na na.

Went to see Leon in the 70’s in Boston. When Leon came on stage, this woman sitting next to me stood up and shouted “he’s come to save us!”. She then passed out for the entire concert.

Hampton Roads Colosseum... I saw ‘Disney on Parade’ there in ‘69. My dad was in Vietnam and his commanding officer took me and my sister to see it. It was brand spanking new then.
