Love her voice. Love so many.
I might choose “Yesterday Once More”, because it brings back so much nostalgia and really fits, even for my time (except the “shalala” and “whoooaooa”!)

She polled ahead of John Bonham on Drums in a 1975 Playboy poll, she might have been good but yeah, ok

Good point.
Richard was great at the music writing, and arrangements. But it was good he didn’t sing too much. Very honky and nerdy sounding!

I don’t know if I have one favorite- Top of the World comes to mind.
I loved all her songs. I’m getting a little teary thinking about that beautiful voice silenced forever.
She was the greatest.
Close To You
We’ve Only Just Begun
There was no one to compare.

One didn’t really have a favorite Carpenters song but as the old saying goes, one would have given her a ham sandwich, or a pizza.

Sorry I got so upset.
It was just such a nice post, asking people to remember such a sweet time and the way you posted about her death just seemed disrespectful.

“I remember they did a Carpenters tribute album back in the 90s, with modern groups doing their covers, when they asked the bands which song they wanted to cover they all said, “Superstar”. Sonic Youth ended up doing it.”
I bought that CD when it came out. Mathew Sweet doing “Let me be the one” was the only track I still listen to.

Any Karen Carpenter thread is almost by default also a Paul Williams thread. ‘Babs’ did a great job with ‘Evergreen’ I bet Karen would have killed it.

Good stuff. As good as she was, though, Karen comes in a deep second to Ann Wilson of Heart, greatest female rock singer ever.
