A 17-year-old student at Matanzas High School in Palm Coast, Florida was arrested Tuesday after he shoved a teacher’s aide so hard she flew in the air several feet. He then pounded her head into the floor, all because she took his Nintendo Switch away from him during class, according to police. He later spit on the victim and said when he comes back he would kill her, police said.

If school security aren’t allowed to carry conventional firearms, what about tranquilizer dart guns? The darts can bring down gorillas in the wild so why not use them on feral creatures roaming the halls in public buildings ... especially the exceptionally big animals who present a clear danger to humans?

My family had a wealth of “oral history” from our past. There were reasons they did not discuss it outside our circles.

I believe that I understand both sides of the white/black racial history than is possible today.

One of those events hinged around a 72 year old black man who came across the field of my father’s grandfather in 1927. He was looking for a job. His wife had died, his children moved away from his home town in East Texs.

He had been born as a slave. He was not well educated but was very smart.

He worked for my father’s grandfather until he died. (in early 1946). He was on the US census as part of the household. My father called him “dad”, they were very close.

My father told me that before “dad” died, he brought me to see him. Before I was a year old.

There is a local black family in nearby town, who helped us care for sick elderly family members for over 10 years. There were 13 girls and 2 boys in that family. Same mother delivered all 15 (including 2 sets of twins). Four of the ladies in that family cared for several of my family members.

I went to the mother’s funeral and sat with the family.

They sat with my family at my father’s funeral 2 years ago.

My younger brother died 3 months ago. He called one of he ladies of the family caring for my father, “his sister” (my brother and I had no siblings).

Nobody understands cross racial kindness better than my family.

Of course, if I talk to people who don’t know the reality of history, they would call me a racist. (I am not.) But I do understand the relationship for way over 100 year time span. (I’m 75)

Teachers should be able to shoot students like this in the face, with no repercussions

I’m a little surprised he didn’t help more. As a marine he should be in good shape and trained in hand to hand.

Not saying he should have killed the cretin but he could have ran over and lent a hand to the woman getting her brains made into mush.

Yeah, I hear you.

But then again, there’s a lot to process in those few short seconds. Who knows, maybe it was part of a drama class encouraging the student to act real? Maybe the school was doing a training scenario? Maybe questioning that would make any of us hesitate.

But by my stopwatch it took less than 10 seconds from first view to pulling the guy off of her.

NOT a security guard. That was a Marine recruiter visiting the school that day.

Not a security guard!

Just a Marine recruiter who happened to be visiting the school. He wasn’t armed.

This is a SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENT.

The woman is a “paraprofessional” who works with the special needs students.

The job can be rewarding, but it’s also a tough job, especially when the students become teens.
